Bridge Replacement Works to Six Hills Way Shephall Subway, Stevenage

IWP Reference No. BRG 12008

Dear Resident,

Geoffrey Osborne Limited working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council will be
starting work on 22nd July to replace the existing bridge
deck and parapets to Six Hills Way
Shephall subway. The works are programmed to last for 8 weeks, finishing on the 13th

The purpose of the works is to upgrade the bridge to carry 40t vehicles and replace the
existing road restraint systems to e
nsure the bridge can withstand vehicle impact forces
during accidental collision. These works will ensure both the safety of road users and the
integrity of the bridge for many years to come.

The works require demolition of the existing bridge deck and par
apets, to enable a new deck
to be constructed using reinforced concrete sections with increased strength to accommodate
40t vehicles. New parapets will be installed over the bridge with safety barrier on
approaches/departures. The deck will be waterproofed

and the road and footways resurfaced.
Due to the nature of these works it will be necessary to close the road and the subway for the
duration of the project.

The position of the road closure will extend from the Brittain Way/Shephall Way roundabout
to the

junction with Valley Way, a distance of approximately 456m. Access will be
maintained to Fairlands Valley Park and the sailing lake. The cycleway will be closed from
its junction with Shephall Way south westwards to its junction with the cycle track runni
adjacent to the north side of the eastbound carriageway of Six Hills Way

Whilst the road closure is in place a diversion route will be provided which will divert traffic
via Valley Way, Broadhall Way, and Shephall Way. Pedestrians and cyclists will be d
to cross Six Hills Way at the Shephall roundabout. For further information please refer to
