Store Requirements

1.
Checkout
. Due to the size of the store, there is parking
and checkout lanes on all 4 sides of the store and utilize
60 POS terminals. Each of these terminals will be able to
do Price Look Up (PLU) on each item being purchased.
Each completed sale will need to update an inventory
database. Cash Registers will also need to obtain
payment authorization for checks, credit & debit cards.

2.
Customer Loyalty Database
. Each customer receives a
mag
-
stripe ID card. These are scanned at checkouts, and
kiosks and are used to provide loyalty points to each
customer and special bonus discounts. Customers can
use their Loyalty Cards at any
WorldMart

store.
Consequently, the primary database for this information
resides at corporate headquarters
.

Store Requirements

3.
Inventory Replenishment
. Each evening, the corporate
inventory database will evaluated the store’s sales
database and place re
-
stock orders, sent electronically, to
WorldMart’s regional warehouses and its suppliers.
Deliveries of new stock will be received throughout the
day and during the night shift be scanned into inventory
and on the shelves by the end of their shift.

4.

Time & Attendance
. Employees will clock
-
in and out on
the registers. This information is recorded in a database
that is used both for payroll and management functions
to schedule employees and track attendance.

5.

Sales Management
. Daily and shift reports are
produced that show actual sales, inventory status,
particularly of items that are being promoted.

Marketing Requirements

1.
Self
-
Services Kiosks
. Kiosks will allow customers to
purchase items that are out
-
of
-
stock, check prices on
desired items, and will allow the customer to browse the
company’s online catalog to order not currently offered
within their local store. A research study is planned to
determine if these systems will also allow the store to not
stock infrequently sold items.

2.
Wireless Devices
. Sales personnel and store management
will use wireless devices that will enable them to roam the
store to provide help to customers, perform inventories,
check prices, and etc.

3.
Promotional Screens
. Large 42” Plasma screens will be
hung from the ceiling throughout the store. These screens
will be capable of displaying full
-
motion video, audio,
and used for marketing purposes.

Marketing Requirements

4.

Key Fobs
. The Marketing Department has requested
that Key Fobs be used in place of mag
-
stripe cards
currently used for the Customer ID card. Key Fobs can
simply be waved in front of a device (gas pump, kiosk,
etc), rather than having to be physically run thru a slot
on a reader.

Technical Requirements

Incorporating 60 POS systems for each of the 4 checkout
lanes and subsequent systems throughout the store.

Scalability: System must be designed for easy
expansion.

Management and staff systems and activities are not
bandwidth
-
intensive. Incorporated ability to increase
bandwidth for the future will support added POS and
hardware systems.

Technical Requirements

Wireless access points will need to cover the entire
area of a WorldMart store.

Network rack, Servers, Media Converters, Switches,
and etc… will be located in the management office’s
network closet.

NOS, management based, database, inventory, POS
and other software applications used on the network
must be compatible and interoperable with related
system software and hardware.
