1.

Summary:


PBO has made several changes/upgrades to the POI and the postgre database which
the POI connects to. Because of this
,

POI users will need to install a new driv
er for
postgre as well as do a sanity check with their ODBC connections and with re
-
linking
the POI.


2.

DMS (Knowlede Tree) File downloads
.

a.

You will need to goto the DMS (Knowledge Tree) site.

b.

File Navigation:

Data Management

>
Software

>
POI

>
v1.7

c.

You will find the current version of the POI, the needed ODBC driver and this
document.

d.

Download all files to a location of your choosing on your system.

i.

To download, click on the file
names then click on ‘view’. You will be
prompted to select a location to save the file.

ii.

Repeat this step until all files are downloaded and saved.


3.

Current Users.

Remove current version of PostGres ODBC driver before
installing the new driver.

a.

Be sure t
hat Section 2 in this document is complete.

b.

You must delete you current postgreSQL ODBC driver.

To do this go to ‘Start

Settings

Control Panel’.

lick on ‘Control Panel’.

With the control panel file open select ‘Add or R
emove Programs’.

iii.

The Add/Remove Programs utility will open.

iv.

From this list select ‘psqlODBC’ and click on the remove button.

ou are now ready to install the new psqlODBC driver.

Install ODBC Driver.

i.

Double click the file: psqlodbc.msi

See Section 2 of this manual for instructions on obtaining this
installer
.


ii.

Follow the installation instructions in the install wizard.

Select ye
s or OK for every prompt.


iii.

Once complete you are ready to open the POI.

e.

POI v1.7.1

i.

See Section 2 of this document for obtaining version 1.


ii.

Save the POI into a location on your hard drive. (it is always good to
keep a copy of the POI saved in a separate lo
cation.)


iii.

Double click the POI to open. You should see no errors or problems
with opening the applicatio
n.


A typical error is: ODBC

connection to ‘pod’ failed.

New User Installations.

a.

Contact the Database Administrator to create a username and password

for
you.

b.

Install ODBC Driver.

i.

Double click the file: psqlodbc.msi

See section 2 for instructions on getting this file

ii.

Follow the installation instructions in the install wizard.

Select yes or OK for ev
ery prompt.

d.

Once ODBC driver is installed
and you have an account set up by the
Database Administrator,
you need to create a odbc connection.

e.

Create ODBC Connection.

i.

Goto datasources (ODBC).
This can be done(in Windows) b
y going to:


START

PROGRAMS

ADMINI
STRATIVE TOOLS

DATA
SOURCES.

The ‘ODBC Datasource Administrator’ will open.

In this administrator cl
ick on the ‘ADD
’ tab on the right hand side

Create a new data source screen will appear.

Select the ‘PostgreSQL’ driver from the available list.

vi.

Once the ‘PostgreSQL’ driver is highlighted clic
k on finish.

vii.

A psql ODBC set up screen will open. You must set the properties of
this screen as follows:

the setup.

POI v1.7.1

i.

You should have gotten

POI v1.7.1 from section 2 in this document.


ii.

We must now set up the POI v1.7.1 (MS Access application) to use the
odbc connection we created earlier.


iii.

Save the POI into a location on your hard drive. (it is alw
ays good to
keep a copy of the POI saved in a separate location.)


iv.

Double click the POI to open. You should see no errors or problems
with opening the application.

pen the POI application.

On the toolbar Go to ‘Tools

Database Utilities

Linked Table Manager’.

The Linked table manager utility will open. Click on the ‘Select All’ button
and the click ‘OK’.
