FRANCE
Scope and limitations
How
can
France
develop
new
withstanding
economical
activities
based
on
the
utilization
of
the
biotechnological
capacities
of
algae?
France
possesses
undeniable
assets
to
domesticate
algae
and
uphold
new
economical
fields
:
over
5000
km
of
temperate
and
tropical
climate
coast
line,
an
acknowledged
know
-
how
in
vegetal
agriculture
production
and
transformation,
the
taking
into
account
of
societal
needs
through
the
Grenelle
Environment
pact
and
a
top
ranking
scientific
research
program
in
the
realms
of
publications
and
patents
on
algae
.
Even
though
many
industries
using
macroalgae
and
a
few
microalgae
are
already
fostered
in
France,
there
remains
many
obstacles
to
their
widespread
development
.
On
an
international
level,
we
notice
nowadays
the
appearance
of
many
initiatives
aiming
to
unite
all
the
key
protagonists
of
this
field
.
For
example,
the
American
Algal
Biomass
Organisation
or
the
European
Algae
Biomass
Association,
are
striving
to
uphold
innovative
solutions
and
points
of
view
.
None
the
less,
these
initiatives
remain
scattered
and
insufficiently
coordinated
and
structured
.
In
this
sense,
it
has
appeared
appropriate
to
those
concerned
by
these
new
promising
fields
to
organise
a
symposium
whose
aim
is
to
define
a
National,
European
and
Worldwide
state
of
the
art
.
This
will
enable
us
to
identify
clearly,
at
our
national
level,
the
challenges,
the
locks
to
pick
and
what
is
at
stake
to
create
or
access
new
markets
.
This
symposium,

Algues
:
filières
du
futur
!”,
is
organised
by
the
Adebiotech
association
.
Veolia
Environnement
,
the
Industrie
&
Agro
-
Ressources
,
Mer
Bretagne,
Mer
PACA
and
Trimatec
competitiveness
clusters,
the
Atlanpole
Blue
Cluster,
the
CEA
and
Fermentalg
are
our
partners
for
this
event
.
This
large
gathering
is
meant
for
public
and
private
laboratory
researchers,
start
-
ups,
small
companies,
large
industrial
groups
as
well
as
associations
and
institutions
.
All
the
application
fields
of
microalgae
and
macroalgae
will
be
addressed
:
health,
food,
cosmetics,
environment,
green
chemistry
and
bio
fuels
.
This
symposium
will
take
place
from
the
17
th
till
the
19
th
or
November
2010
(five
half
-
days)
.
It
will
be
the
first
event
of
this
scope
on
algae
in
France
and
should
gather
250
participants
.
2
Algues: filières du futur!
After
synthetic
presentations
given
by
international
experts
acknowledged
in
this
field,
the
participants,
via
theme
workshops,
will
be
able
to
contribute
to
the
identification
of
technological
and
scientific
locks,
of
the
market’s
potential
needs
.
The
entire
chain
of
value
will
be
addressed
during
these
theme
workshops
:
from
the
interest
of
genetics
to
the
different
industrial
value
-
enhancements,
harvesting
and
transformation
processes
shall
be
addressed
.
While
aiming
for
a
global
approach,
transversal
dimensions
such
as
economics,
regulation,
environmental
and
social
issues
will
be
favoured
.
The
symposium
shall
be
rounded
off
by
a
summary
of
these
different
workshops
.
The
aim
of
the
“Algues
:
filières
du
futur!”
symposium
is
to
reinforce
and
assert
France’s
position
in
the
algae
realm
by
helping
the
key
protagonists
to
merge
and
structure
their
actions
.
This
will
uphold
innovative
solutions
on
the
short
and
mid
-
long
term
.
The
conclusions
of
this
symposium
will
bring
into
light
the
most
promising
opportunities
and
leads
to
be
followed
.
This
information
will
be
available
for
public
institutions
and
subsidy
agencies
for
research
and
development
programs
.
