Meet the user:
Universiti Putra Malaysia
Universiti Putra Malaysia is a research university offering
undergraduate and postgraduate courses with a focus on
agricultural sciences and its related fields. The challenges
faced by the librarians working within the Information
Management Division are common amongst librarians across
the globe, including: the worry over budget cuts; the variety
of questions from users who all have different research
backgrounds; and a demand for niche topics.
Why do they choose Emerald?
Emerald Management Plus was chosen by Universiti Putra
Malaysia to overcome such challenges, as the resource offers
the widest collection of focused titles available. The “versatile
database” also eradicates some of the strain of budget control,
as a set price is confirmed for the full length of the agreement.
Most significantly, the extensive coverage of business and
management is used widely within their Graduate School of
Management, one of the top business schools in Malaysia.
The practicality of Emerald Management Plus also helps the
librarians, as it arms them with “powerful information that can
be adapted in their daily job tasks”. They describe the site as
“very easy to use and navigate”, particularly as “the results
are segregated by titles: journals, books and bibliographic
databases”, which is essential for saving valuable time. They
greatly benefit from the ease of downloading articles and the
simplicity of the way in which abstracts are displayed to ensure
that time is not wasted on reading information that is not
relevant to their research.
First choice
The librarians at Universiti Putra Malaysia have been using
Emerald since their student days and now Emerald is still their
first choice for searching articles on librarianship.

quickly identify articles of interest, provide alerts to new and relevant
content and interact more easily with the Emerald platform. Articles in
EMeJ can be downloaded as HTML and PDF files.
Working with authors and editors
The strength of Emerald’s business and management journal
collections lie in the depth of our relationships with authors.
We work with authors at every stage; from calls for papers, workshops
and guidance on how to get published, peer networks to refine papers
prior to submission and the online submission process. Emerald also
acts, with the European Foundation for Management Development,
as a catalyst to world-leading doctoral research in business and
management through our Literati awards.
Emerald publishes in partnership with some of the world’s leading
business associations including: the Global Foundation for
Management, Association to Advance Collegiate Business Schools
and the International Federation of Library Associations.
Research you can use
Emerald was one of the first scholarly publishers to publish its journal
articles as an online database in 1994 and has come a long way since
the company was founded with just one journal in 1967. However,
the link between theory and practice that was the foundation of the
company 44 years ago remains, and the message “Research you can
use,” is still upheld today.
Emerald continues to grow and develop through:
• Provision of both journal articles and tailored support resources
• Commitment to launching high quality new journals
• Listening to our community of Editors, Authors and online users.
The titles within the Emerald Management eJournal collections reflect
our commitment to quality and innovation in the field of business and
management research.

Online publication and digitization
has led to journal content
increasingly being accessed
online. Despite this, four of the
five most cited papers in Emerald
journals date back to pre-1994. To
enable you to gain access to this
valuable research, Emerald and
The British Library have worked
together to digitize over 68,000
articles from more than 120
journals.
With journals available as far back as 1898, Emerald Backfiles is an
essential resource for social historians, business and management
teachers, and scholars alike.
Emerald Backfiles opens up access to vast amounts of content
formerly available only in print. A subscription provides coverage of
digitized titles dating back to Volume 1, Issue 1. Content includes
early articles by seminal authors in leading journals such as the
British Food Journal and European Journal of Marketing. Articles are
fully-searchable in high quality PDF format with HTML headers and
extracts.

EmergingMarketsCaseStudies
Emerald Emerging Markets Case
Studies is an online collection of
peer reviewed case studies
focused on business decision
making and management
development throughout key
global emerging markets. Cases
are written primarily by case-
writers working in the developing
economies to ensure a truly
reflective local insight.
The vision
This keenly awaited collection has been developed in response
to increasing demands from business educators and practitioners
for quality-controlled teaching cases focusing on global emerging
markets.
As economic dominance continues to shift away from Europe and
the USA, business schools and organisations alike are increasingly
looking to management development in emerging markets.
Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies (EEMCS) will offer a
unique and accurate insight into the local situation across the primary
emerging markets of Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East.
A virtual library of teaching cases spotlighting the
world’s emerging economies
Business, Management and Economics
15
Teaching notes
Teaching notes accompany every case within the EEMCS collection.
They are compiled by the author to support case delivery in a
teaching environment. Our teaching notes generally include a case
synopsis, teaching objectives and suggested discussion questions
and answers. All teaching notes are complimentary and accessible
online to faculty members only.
The characteristics of an EEMCS
teaching case
EEMCS teaching cases differ significantly from our research cases
primarily in terms of application. While one is used as an instrument to
facilitate teaching and add to practical knowledge, the other relies on
a methodology used to support research findings, and is aimed chiefly
at expanding the theoretical body of knowledge.
Teaching cases:
• Aim to solve a business problem
• Focus on teaching objectives
• Give practical applications to “real” world situations
• Create dialogue with students and encourage critical thinking.
Functionality and resources
• A collection of online case studies with new cases added every
year
• All cases will be accompanied by teaching notes and multimedia
resources where available at no additional cost
• A unique access to teaching to faculty personnel through immediate
access to online teaching notes: only faculty are provided with a
secure registered logon
• Each case study will be fully searchable within the “Emerald
Insight” platform
• All cases will undergo a strict review process to ensure that the
highest research standards are maintained
• Access to the latest cases as they are published, with unlimited
downloads and unlimited simultaneous users
• Flexible pricing including both subscription and pay-per-view
options.
Who would benefit from EEMCS?
Teaching professionals
Providing educators with a comprehensive teaching resource to
support the delivery of both undergraduate and Master’s level
management programmes.
Students
Providing students with easily digestible cases which spotlight
international management in practice, whilst underpinning theoretical
business concepts.
Business professionals
Reinforcing Emerald’s drive to publish “Research you can use”
