ASA members Chris Franklin and Tim Jacobbe are leading a group
creating the “The Statistical Education of Teachers” (SET) document.
The SET corresponds to a document called “The Mathematical
Education of Teachers” published by the Conference Board for the
Mathematical Sciences.

This milestone is a chance to celebrate past achievements, and to energize members to grow
the association, promote statistics to youth, and magnify our impact on society.

Aimed at secondary school students, this initiative will strengthen
statistical
education and raise
awareness
about statistics as an attractive career.

With a focus on membership growth, this initiative will expand the size of our
association to increase opportunities and influence for members.


Partner with the Committee on Member Retention and Recruitment
to find mission
-
appropriate ways to increase membership.


Work with the Council of Chapters Governing Board to support
chapters in their local outreach endeavors to quantitative
professionals who have yet to engage with chapters or the ASA.


We believe a goal of 20,000 members is achievable!

With a goal of raising visibility for our profession, this initiative will encourage
and assist statisticians to tackle the world’s biggest challenges


Theme for JSM 2014: “Statistics: Global Impact

Past, Present, and
Future.” There will be StatImpact
-
themed sessions at the meeting.


There will be a special section/issue dedicated to StatImpact in the
journals
Statistics in Biopharmaceutical Research
and
The American
Statistician

in 2015.


A major public relations campaign will soon be
underway that
will
focus on
statistics
impact in many areas of society and science.
