You must complete ALL items on this page for your project!






Explain, in method of your choosing, how and why DNA replication takes place. Include
where in the cell this happens and be sure to note all important details. How do the
structure and organic components of DNA make this possible?



Using a timeline (of your own creation!), a comic strip, diary entries or a poster (must fit
neatly into your packet), describe the scientific journey to discover the structure of DNA.



Using the
paper DNA model and/or the Hamburger to Hair video as examples, produce
your own model of protein synthesis. Identify the processes of transcription and
translation. Identify the nucleic acids. If you design a 3
-
D model, include photographs and a
written d
escription of your work.



Compare and contrast DNA replication and protein synthesis.



Give a brief overview of the Human Genome Project. Include all dates, people and places.
This should be a full written page of paper.



Write a letter to the editor, membe
r of a scientific ethics committee or a current researcher
(real or fictional) sharing your personal feelings about biotechnology and its possibilities.
Your focus should be on genetic manipulation such as cloning, transmutations or even DNA
fingerprinting
. Back up your opinions with solid information! Should such biotechnology be
banned, continue as is or even receive more funding?



Create a booklet explaining FOUR of the following terms: dominant, recessive,
codominance, polygenic inheritance, multiple all
eles, test cross and intermediate traits. The
booklet must include at least two Punnett squares with instructions to the reader on how
to create Punnett squares as well as how to base probability of offspring traits on the
squares. Simple definitions are n
ot enough

should be folded so it measures 8.5 x 5.5 inches and include plenty of color!
