Curriculum Development

Long a hallmark of the Hughes Undergraduate Biology (HUB) program, our curriculum
development has resulted in a unified, demanding
biology curriculum
of

core and advanced
coursework for students pursuing careers in health professions, biological research,
biotechnology
, and
teaching.
Concentrating on vertically integrating course offerings across
disciplines, HUB has completed vertical course sets in cell

biology, neuroscience, and physiology, and is
exploring
additional courses in
introductory chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, and microbiology
.
Building on skills that students have mastered, HUB’s vertically integrated courses eliminate
redundancies a
nd promote the use of inquiry, interdisciplinary study, and scientific literacy.

As we continue this exciting trajectory, HUB will develop a
comprehensive four
-
year curriculum
s
trategy that will
include key courses in chemistry, mathematics, and microbi
ology
based on
competency
-
based learning outcomes that more effectively serve students pursuing medical school or
research in the biomedical sciences.
