LOGGING IN

To make changes to your website you must be logged in as administrator. Your tutor will
issue you with a username and password in order to do this. (If you are not attending a
training course, please contact
Ei
S

to obtain these.) Please keep this secure

and safe.
For users who are migrating from the old system, the previous username and password
still applies. You have the option of changing your password and this will be explained
later in these notes.



Please enter these details within the box below,

the password is case sensitive.

Site Settings is where you can modify the settings for your site, for example create pages,
insert images, moderate your messages within th
e messaging centre etc.





Each tool will be outlined in the following pages.

SKINS

Within this section you can change how your web pages look by selecting the different
type of ‘skins’ available. The site is currently set to ‘default’.

You can view th
e type of skins available by using the scroll bar and clicking on the image
you wish to adopt. Alternatively, use the drop down menu and select the appropriate
name.

You also have a layout option which can either be fixed or ‘liquid’.

In this section you can enter all contacts for your website, e.g. Clerk, Chair, Webmaster
etc. This information is displayed in the Contact panel on your web pages

CONTACT INFORMATION

(CONT.)

When entering the contact email address, you also have the option to complete the
Message Subject which is useful if you wish to know that a message has come from your
website. This will be added to the subject to each email that is sent using that link.

Once you have completed the contact information, you can decide to order the contacts
as appropriate to your site. For example, you may wish for the Clerk contact deta
ils to
always appear first. In the Contact Order box enter a number to place the contacts in the
order for display. The lowest number will appear at the top of the list.

Click on
‘Add new contact’

once the form is complete.

Once a contact has been create
d, you can edit this at any time by selecting the contact
from the drop down menu (the blue box).



Make your changes to the content and click Update this Contact.

If you wish to create a new Contact, simply enter the details within the form (ignoring th
e
blue box


this is to select an existing contact) and click to Add New Contact.

To delete a contact, select the contact (within the blue box) and tick to delete.

Prior to deletion you will be asked to confirm that you wish to permanently remove the
entr
y.






Complete the process by clicking on
‘Delete Contact’
.

SITE NAME

This allows you to change the name that appears at the top of your web site.

SITE SEARCH

This enables people to quickly find information on your site by typing a key word in to the
site search box on your home page.

To enable this function you
will need to tick the site search option. If you are creating links
to documents and you would also like these to be included in the site search you will
need to tick the document search option as well as the site search option.




Useful tip:
Using the
document search will mean that a lot of information could come up
in a key word search, sometimes making it hard to find information. Only use this if you
feel it is necessary.

Parish or Town Council has a logo

this can be uploaded and be incorporated in
your site. The logo must be a .gif file and ideally no larger than 100 pixels square.

The
logos

have already been placed within the website folder and
therefore you only need to tick the relevant box within general settings and click ‘up
date
settings’ for it to appear on your web page.




Within this section you have the option to include various settings such as a hit counter or
display date.

LARGER SITE NAME

This option increases the size of your site name.


HOMEPAGE LATEST NEWS

FLASH

This allows you to include ‘news flash’ on your home page. This is generated from
creating news items. You have the option to include multiple news flashes. These will be
removed after a two week period from the input date, but they will still appear in

the
Parish News section.

META DATA

Within this section you can add any keywords and a description of your site. This
information is used by some search engines when indexing your page.

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

You have the option
to change your password and the following criteria must be followed:



Minimum 8 characters



Start with a letter and include at least one number


If you enter a password that does not comply with the above, you will receive the
following message at the top of

the page.

Your new password must be 8 characters or more. Your password has not been
changed.

Within every page you create you will be presented with the Page Content Editor, which

where you enter your text, graphics and any links you may want.

It is very easy to use and many icons are similar to those in Microsoft Word.

By entering details or editing
this section you can manage, create and remove pages and
their content.

PARENT

You can create a parent/child relationship with your site pages. This means you can link
a page (child) to another page (parent) and the system will create a sub
-
menu that shows
any child pages that belongs to that parent.

Every page that is created on your site can have an expiry date. The default for all pages
is set to one year (unless otherwise stated). This can be changed as appropriate by
clicking on the diary box.



Note:

You can opt for the page not to expire.

You also have the option of not including a page on your live site. You may want to do
this if you are part

way through creating your page. Simply click
Do not show

this page.


Remember once you have finished cr

COPY AND PASTE

You can copy and paste directly from Word in

to your web page. The website will remove
any conflicting code and this is called ‘clean up’.

to your Resources area. If you have created subfolders, you will need to ensure you

These links enable you to move around a page quickly and easily. For example, you

wish to have an anchor next to a subject and when you click on the link, it takes you
directly to that subject.

You will need to create an anchor at the beginning of the text where you would like to link

Online enquiries is a management/backup tool for any email messages that have been
sent via the ‘Contact Details’ box.



Click on
Read

to view the message, the oldest message is at the top of the list.




Clicking the
Mark as Read

flags the message
as having been read and this is then
moved to your
Archive

box.


To view your Archive messages, click on
Old Messages
.

GOOGLE MAPS


KPC

provides a tool for displaying Google Maps on your Web pages. You must enter
information
that you
get from Google

in order for the map to be displayed on your
pages. You will need to get a
Key

and a
Map Reference
.





You can display a Google Map on any of your site Web pages. This excludes any special
feature pages such as: News, Diary Dates, Useful

Links, Message Centre and FAQ's,
etc.

You can
also
customise your map by adding some basic Google features.

These are:



Display map navigation and scale control



Display map type control

Normal, satellite etc



Display an information window

This area of the website needs to be moderated. Messages
will not

appear in the list
until it has been checked.

The Message Centre can be used for a specific subject, ie your parish wishing to find out
the views of your parishioners about a specific item. Once responses have been collated
the message centre can be remo
ved.



To create a message thread click on
Message Centre

from your home page.






Click here if you wish to start a
subject for the Message Centre.



Enter details as required and click
Add your message

ceive an email when a message has been received in the message
centre you will need to add your designated email to the contact information area.

To view any messages people have sent, you will need to log in and go to
