Supplement 60

Hanging Protocols

This Supplement was submitt
ed to the DICOM Standards Committee for letter ballot with a
closing date of November 23, 2004. As noted above, the document received 21 favorable votes,
one negative ballot (GE Healthcare ) and five abstentions. Several comments were received. To
initi
ate the discussion of this document, members asked GE’s representative to summarize the
company’s objections. After considerable discussion, WG
-
06 concluded that some, but not all of
these requests, could be accommodated. On behalf of WG
-
11, Janet Keyes
of Hologic reviewed
the other comments that had been submitted and WG
-
11’s response to those suggestions.
Members, then, entered into a detailed review of all parts of the document that had changed since
it was sent for letter ballot. At the conclusion o
f this review members voted with one negative
ballot (GE Healthcare) to approve this supplement for
Final Text
.

Supplement 63

Multi

On behalf of WG
-
17, Scott Johnson of Philips Medical Systems provided a brief history of this
supp
lement’s development and summarized the working group’s response to the one set of
public comments that had been submitted
. He, then, led an extensive review of the supplement.
On Wednesday, January 12, Bill Stewart of Siemens and Doug Sluis of Cyberpuls
e joined the
meeting by telephone conference to represent the views of ultrasound vendors. After an intense
discussion of how best to handle ultrasound use cases, all agreed that it a “time out” was
necessary to re
-
evaluate vendor objectives and the best
overall approach to accommodating them
in DICOM. Members of WG
-
12 and WG
-
17 will hold a joint meeting in San Diego during the
SPIE Medical Imaging Conference to help resolve these issues and report back at a future
meeting.

Digital Signatures in Structured Reports

On behalf of WG
-
14, Chair Lawrence Tarbox summarized the history of this document’s
development. While the DICOM Standards Committee approved this work item in November of
2001, the group’s efforts to
complete the work were temporarily set aside due to the press of
other, more urgent business. During this meeting, Dr. Tarbox led a detailed, line

Supplement 96

General Purpose Worklist Step Creation

David Clunie provided a broad overview of draft #7 of this supplement an
d, then, led a line

18.

Supplement 98

Retirement

of Detached, Stand
-

David Clunie led a discussion of version #8 of this document. The development process for this
supplement has progressed slowly, by intention, to allow abundant opportunity for parties who
might be affected by
the retirement of specific services to register their concerns. To provide
additional opportunities to review and consider the supplement’s impact, it will be posted to the
Committee’s public ftp site for the next two months.

19.

Supplement 99

Extended Nego
tiation of User Identity

Rob Horn reminded members that this supplement was issued for Public Comment on September
23, 2004 with a closing date of November 8. No formal comments were received. There was,
however, a small exchange of e

New Business

Harry Solomon introduced and led a discussion of the first draft of a new supplement (#108

Relevant Patient Info Query for Orders
). This supplement defines a template a
nd SOP Class to
be used in the Relevant Patient Info Query service to retrieve the list of active orders for a
patient. Mr. Solomon noted that the SOP Class does not define the scope of “active” orders (e.g.,
time range of scheduling or performance, depar
tments included/excluded, order status, etc.). The
supplement provides a means for
users at modalities

before performing a procedure

to see
what other orders are outstanding for a patient. In this way, one could identify possible conflicts
between pr
otocols on the modality and other tests that are pending for the patient.

After careful
review and discussion, members unanimously voted to approve the supplement’s distribution for
Public Comment
.

Harry Solomon introduced and led a discussion of the firs
t draft of another new supplement
(#109

SOP Instance Location Service). This supplement adds a query service that allows an
SCU to query an SCP with a SOP Instance UID and receive, in response, the full hierarchical set
of Study/Series/Instance UIDs, th
e SOP Class UID, and the Retrieve AE Title. He plans to bring
a more complete version to the March meeting.
