Creating A Teacher Web Page

Open the Template


Use Netscape as your Internet Browser.


1.

Log on to the Internet through the Web Security program. Ask the instructor
about an existing Web Security account if you are not at your home school.

2.

In the location bar enter the web address

s
cavengerhunt.lee.k12.nc.us/teacher
.

Note there is
no

www.

in front of the address.

3.

When the template opens, click the
File

command at the top of the page then click
on the
Edit Page

option. The template will now be opened in the Composer
mode, which me
ans you can make changes to it.

4.

To make a change in the template highlight a section of text in the template and
then type your own information at the location.






Inserting Images (pictures and/or clip art)


1.

Position the cursor where you want to place
the image.

2.

Click the
Insert
command, and select
Image
. The Image Properties dialog box
will open.

3.

Click the
Choose File

button. The
Choose Image File

dialog box will open.
Find the desired file on the correct drive, click it, and then click the
Open

ton.

4.

Your image should now appear in your web page. Resize your image by clicking
and dragging a corner of the image.

Saving Your Teacher Web Page


1.

It is a good idea to save your work frequently. Click the
File

command and select
the
Save As

option.

2.

Select the proper drive to store your page on which should be the floppy drive (3
½ A:).

3.

You must name your file
index.html

in order for it to load properly to the
Internet.


Working With Information In Tables


Tables are used in the template to make align
ment of information easier. If you do not
wish to use a table in a particular section of the template you may delete it.


1.

Point and click in a section of the table. Delete the text in that section.

2.

Type your new text in the space.

3.

Click the Tab key to mo
ve to the next section of the table. Make sure you use the
Tab key to move within tables and not the Enter key.

4.

When you wish to add a new row to the table, press the Tab key and a new row
will automatically be added to the table.

5.

The font in new table ro
ws will not be the same as the rest of the template. You
can change the font to match the remainder of the template. The template uses the
font Comic Sans MS


14 point.

6.

If you want to delete the table all together, right click inside the table, and choo
se
Delete Table.


Setting Hyperlinks In Your Web Page


You can create a link in your web page to other Internet web pages, thus allowing you to
link your page to other pages where students and/or parents can go to get additional
information about a topic.

1.

Position the cursor by pointing and clicking in the location where you wish to
place the first link.

2.

Type the Internet address of the site you to which you wish to link. Be sure to
type the
http://

at the beginning of the address. This makes the computer

look to
the Internet rather than on the hard drive.

3.

Next highlight and copy the Internet address you just typed.

4.

Click the
Link

button in the toolbar, or
Insert
,
Link

and a dialog box will open.
In the middle of the dialog box at the Link To section, pas
te in the link address
you copied.

5.

Click the Apply button and then click the OK button to set the link.

6.

Your link will now be active. Repeat this process for each link you wish to set.

7.

This would be a good time to save your web page.



Setting
An Email Link In Your Web Page


You can set an email link in your web page to make it easy for people to send you an
email. The process is very similar to creating a link.


1.

Highlight the word or words, image, or perhaps email address that you wish to use
as your link.

2.

Click the
Link

button in the toolbar.

3.

Instead of typing an Internet address, in the Link To section type
mailto:

followed
by your email address.

4.

Click the Apply button and then click the OK button. The email link will be set.

5.

Save your web
page when you have done this.
