Project description

The goal of this project is to b
uild a system that recommends itineraries
of activities for a day trip in a city. The system uses background
knowledge
and

information about the user preferences that it obtains
during the session in order to suggest an itinerary.

The system maintains a m
odel of the user preferences about different
activities. This model basically reflects the desirability of different
activities
of

the user.

By constructing and analyzing
Bayesian networks

and
Influence diagrams

the system will determine the most appropri
ate activities for the user
according to his preferences, and generate a set of questions, answering
which will further refine the activities to better match user’s preferences.

The system will then find a schedule that integrates as many activities as
pos
sible, taking into account the time required to move among them and
the duration of each activity.

The system will use a
web based user interface

to display the generated
schedule and allow the user to change it either by directly modifying the
activities
or by answering the questions.


The project includes the development and implementation of algorithms
concerning Bayesian networks, influence diagrams, and constraint
satisfaction models, such as:



Updating information in networks based on user input.



Findi
ng the most important questions to ask.



Finding the most suitable activities and designing a feasible
schedule that includes them.

The project will be developed by using ASP.NET, Netica API and C#
programming language in the Visual Studio 2010

IDE.
