Chapter 1. System
R
equirements


In order
to use the software application in optimum conditions, Key Soft recomm
ends the
following minimum configurations:



Server:

Hardware

MB RAM;



2 GB hard disk;



CD/DVD writer

Note: If you will be using one of the following operating systems: Windows Vista,
Windows 7, Windows Server 2005 or Windows Server 2008, the SQL server has to be at

Chapter 2.
Check List

In order to
run the installation procedure without errors, we recomend you do the following
preliminary
verifications:



The server and the clients must meet the minimum requirements specified in Chapter 1
;



On the server machine the following must be installed:

o

ODBC

if you will be using Microsoft SQL server 2000

or,

SQL native client

if you will be usin
g Microsoft SQL server 2005 or 2008

or,

o

sql client

if you will be using PostgreSQL

if you will be using MySQL

Note: The path to the client binaries (mysql or postgresql


if you are using one of these
databases) must be found in the PATH

system variable.



The Client cand access the Server. Between the server and the clients there should be a
TCP/IP communications protocol;



The
port that will be used to connect the clients to the server machine must be allowed
through the installed security

software, an
d

also through any hardware security machines
(For exemple: the operating system’s firewall, the antivirus


firewall, the router’s
firewall, etc.);



In order
for the e
-
mail notifications to work

(if
necessary
)
, the connection to the SMTP
s
erver

must be made either without authentication,
or

with “Plain” or “Login”
authentication type;



In order to connect a client to the server outside the local area network, the
IP and
port
specified

at

server

configuration,

must be visible from the Internet.

Server Installation

In order to install the server using Windows
operating system
, you should follow these steps:

1)

Run t
he executable file entitled

dowload directory;

Select the language used during th
e installation process.

You must read and agree to the licensing terms by pressing the “I Agree” button; The
licensing agreement states that you agree to Key Soft’s terms regarding
the use of the
software suite. We recommend you lecture the entire licensing agreement;

The License Agreement represents a
contract

between yourself and Key Soft. If you
do not agree to the License Agreement terms, do not install the application!

Select the local path that will be used when installing the software using the
“Browse” button;
Click “Install”;

Note: Because of the “Administrator” rights that exist within
Windows Vista, Windows 7 and
Windows Server 2008 operat
ing systems, that can obstruct
the running of software applications
installed within the “C:
\
Program Files” directory, we recommend you install the application in
the “C:/Application name” directory. If you install the application in the “C:
\
Program
Files/
Application name”

directory, we recommend you run the client and the server using Right
click
-
>”Run as Administrator”.

Fill in all fields and press “Install”:

Database server:



The SQL server name that will be used by the application will be written;



If there are
several SQL servers installed in the machine’s network
, these servers will
be visible in the drop
down list;



If the SQL server is installed on the installation machine, the field will be filled in with
the following information:



“(local)”


for all
Microsoft

SQL server

types;

“(localhost)”



for
Postgress
and
MySQL

server types;

c.

Username
:



The
SQL usern
ame used for authentication will be filled in (the username is usually set at
the SQL server installation);



The SQL username has to have SQL server administrative rights (it should be allowed to
create a new database, etc.). The application will propose a
default username for each
server type, but it can be modified as needed;

d.

Password
:



The
SQL server authentication password will be filled in;

e.

Database
:



The
name of the desired database will be filled in; if the database does not exist, it will be
automatica
lly created; Warning


if the database entered here already exists, it will be
reseted (emptied) during installation. You should enter an existing database name only if
you want to reinstall using the existing database;



We recommend you use the application

name as database name, in order to easily
identify the database;

f.

Instance

The s
ervice name under which the application will run must be filled in (the application
will be found in the Windows Operatin System services list);

h. Port:



The connection port the clients will use in order to connect to the application server;



We
recommend

you use port 1815 (the default port proposed when installing) if it is not
in use;



Any av
ailable port can be used when installing;



The server’s IP and port must be noted when installing. This information will be used
when connecting clients;

Note

: At any
time the installation process can be canceled by pressing the “Cancel” button.

: By pressing the “Back” button in steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 you can modify the servers’ settings

Chapter
4
.

Client installation

A client must be installed only if you wish to use the application throughout your
network.

If you will not be using the application within your
network, you don’t have to separately
install a client. The server kit will automacally install an application client.

In order to install the client using
Windows
system
, you should follow these steps:

Run the executable file entitled application_name

Select the language used during the installation process. Click “Next”;
