Search Engine Optimization of “PicksGalore.com”

1.

Five Keyphrase Recommendations

a.

Guitar Picks
: I chose this phrase, even though it is pretty broad,
because I feel that a lot of people would type “guitar picks” into a

search engine when they are looking for guitar picks. According to
Google: Trends, “guitar picks” is a very popular phrase for people to
type into a search engine when they are looking for guitar picks. The
picture below illustrates this.

Furthermor
e, I feel that people would likely come to PicksGalore.com
because “picks” is in the URL, and is part of the name of the site.
Additionally, even though it is at the bottom, PicksGalore.com is on
the opening page of the results page in Google when you typ
e in
“guitar picks.” For all of these reasons, I feel that “guitar picks” is a
phrase that a lot of people would type into a search engine when they
2

are looking for guitar picks
, and would likely bring them to
PicksGalore.com
.

b.

Custom Guitar Picks
: I chos
e this phrase because it is one of the
titles in the navigation bar on the homepage of PicksGalore.com.
Therefore, I feel that this phrase would also be something that a lot of
people would type in if they are looking for customized guitar picks.
Accordi
ng to Google: Trends, “custom guitar picks” is another phrase
that is commonly typed into search engines by people looking for
customized guitar picks. The picture below illustrates this.

Also, I feel that people would likely come to PicksGalore.com if

they
are looking for custom guitar picks because “picks” is in the URL and
is part of the name of the website. Furthermore, the “galore” part of
the website name suggests that there are many different types of
guitar picks available, and the user will li
kely be able to find the guitar
pick they are looking for.

Also, “custom
-
guitar
-
picks” is in the URL
when a user clicks on the “Custom Picks” navigation tab.

For all of
3

these reasons, I feel that “custom guitar picks” is a phrase that is likely
to be typ
ed into search engines by users that are looking for
customized guitar picks
, and will likely bring them to
PicksGalore.com.

c.

Fender

Guitar Picks
: I chose this phrase because I know that Fender
is a popular guitar brand, which means that a lot of people pr
obably
would like to get guitar picks that are made by Fender. Therefore, if
they are looking for Fender guitar picks, they are likely going to type
“Fender guitar picks” into search engines. Also, a link for Fender
guitar picks is on the homepage of Pic
ksGalore.com, which I think
would bring a lot of users to this site because they sell Fender guitar
picks. Unfortunately, Google: Trends was unable to produce a graph
for “Fender guitar picks” because it doesn’t have enough search
volume to create one. A
dditionally, “fender
-
guitar
-
picks” is in the
URL, which users will see on search engine results pages.

For all of
these reasons, I feel that users are likely to type “Fender guitar picks”
into search engines when they are looking for Fender guitar picks,
which will likely bring them to PicksGalore.com.

d.

Unique

Guitar Picks
: I chose this phrase because I feel that users
who are looking for acoustic guitar picks are likely to type “unique
guitar picks” into search engines.

Unfortunately, Google: Trends was
u
nabl
e to produce a graph for “unique

guitar picks” because it doesn’t
have enough search volume to create one.
Also, on the homepage of
4

PicksGalore.com, if a user rolls over the “Picks by Shape” navigation
tab on the left, a list of different kinds of guitar picks appears,
including a link for “unique guitar picks.” Additionally, when a user
types “unique guitar picks” into Google, PicksG
alore.com appears on
the first page of Google’s search engine results pages. A user can also
see that “unique
-
guitar
-
picks” is also in the URL for the
PicksGalore.com link.
Furthermore, I feel that people would likely
come to PicksGalore.com because “pic
ks” is in the URL, and is part of
the name of the site.
For all of these reasons, I feel that “unique guitar
picks” is a phrase that would likely be used by users who are looking
for unique guitar picks, and would likely come to PicksGalore.com
because th
ey sell unique guitar picks.

e.

Jazz

Guitar Picks
: I chose this phrase because I feel that users who
are looking for jazz guitar picks would likely type “jazz guitar picks”
into search engines.

Unfortunately, Google: Trends was unabl
e to
produce a graph for “
jazz

guitar picks” because it doesn’t have enoug
h
search volume to create one.
Furthermore, I feel that people would
likely come to PicksGalore.com because “picks” is in the URL, and is
part of the name of the site.
Additionally,
on the homepage of
Picks
Galore.com, if a user rolls over the “Picks by Shape” navigation
tab on the left, a list of different kinds of guitar picks appea
rs,
including a link for “jazz

guitar picks.”
A user can also see that “jazz
-
guitar
-
picks” is also in the URL for the PicksGal
ore.com link.
For all of
5

these reasons, I feel that “jazz guitar picks” is a phrase that would
likely be used by users who are looking for jazz guitar picks, and
would likely come to PicksGalore.com because they sell jazz guitar
picks.

2.

Current Keyword
Locations Analysis

a.

URL:

The URL is “PicksGalore.com” and the word “picks” is the first
word, which could boost its value because people who are looking for
guitar picks will notice this, and will likely click on its link. People will
likely click on this

link because the publisher did a good job of putting
keywords in the URL, like “picks.” The second word is “galore,” which
suggests that there is a huge variety of picks to choose from. In the
code, the words “Guitar Picks Galore” are present, which is
good
because
, again,

the pub
lisher used keywords.

b.

Title Tag <title> </title>:

The title tag reads “Guitar Picks Galore
,”

The important words here are “
guitar picks
,

which
will help the user
know where they are at.

Additionally, the title tag has not been

stuffed with a lot of words, which will boost the site’s value for the
user.

Because these words are placed in both the title tag and the
code,
it shows that the
publisher did a good job of using keywords
,
like “guitar picks,”

in both.

According to
ArticleUnderground, there was no description meta tag found, and I
was unable to find the <meta name=“description”> as well.

d.

Keyword meta tag <meta name=“
keywords”>:

Again, according to
ArticleUnderground, t
here was no keyword meta tag found, and I was
unable to find the “meta name=“keywords”> as well.

e.

ALT tag <img…alt=“
keywords”>:

Keywords and keyphrases that are
included in the ALT tags include:

d’ddarrio guitar strings

red bear trading guitar picks

steve

clayton guitar picks

john pearse guitar picks

dava guitar picks

dean markley guitar picks

fender guitar picks

everly guitar picks

elixir guitar strings

wegen guitar picks

jim dunlop guitar picks

planet waves guitar picks

These ALT tag keywords and keyphra
ses are relevant because on the
homepage of PicksGalore.com, there are little pictures (or logos) for
each of the brands of guitar picks or guitar strings listed above
, such
as “Steve Clayton,” which is a popular guitar and guitar accessory
brand
. The keyp
hrases “guitar picks” or “guitar strings” are used in
7

each one. These
key
words and keyphrases are relevant because this
site is about guitar picks and strings, and because these keywords are
used in the ALT tags, it will help drive traffic to this site

th
rough
search engines
.

f.

IMG names <img src=“
… .jpg or .gif”>:

I found the following IMG
names:

pointline
-
blue
-
thin.gif

dunlopbestsellers.jp
g

pointline
-
orange.gif

redbearbestsellers.jpg

down.gif

When I look at these IMG names, I can’t help but notice that
most of
them are irrelevant. The “dunlopbestsellers.jpg” and the
“redbearbestsellers.jpg” are the only relevant keywords in these IMG
names, because “Dunlop” and “Red Bear” are brands of guitar picks
and are both sold on PicksGalore.com. The other words
in these IMG
names, such as “pointline
-
blue
-
thin,” “pointline
-
orange” and “down”,
seem irrelevant to me because I can’t place anything specific from the
site with those words and phrases.

g.

Title attributes <img…title=“
keywords”>:

I found the following
ti
tle attributes:

d’ddarrio guitar strings

red bear trading guitar picks

steve clayton guitar picks

8

john pearse guitar picks

dava guitar picks

dean markley guitar picks

fender guitar picks

everly guitar picks

elixir guitar strings

wegen guitar picks

jim dunl
op guitar picks

planet waves guitar picks

Just like with the ALT tags, these keywords and keyphrases are
relevant because on the homepage of PicksGalore.com, there are little
pictures (or logos) for each of the brands of guitar picks or guitar
strings list
ed above, such as “Fender,” which is a popular guitar and
guitar accessory brand. The keyphrases “guitar picks” or “guitar
strings” are used in each one. These words and keyphrases are
relevant because this site is about guitar picks and strings, and
beca
use these keywords are used in the ALT tags, it will help drive
traffic to this site

through search engines
.

h.

Bold/Strong <b> <strong>:

The following keywords and phrases
that were bold “<b>” or strong “<strong>” were:

Welcome to Picks Galore!

Dunlop Tortex

Picks

Red Bear Trading Picks

Buy Guitar Strings online at String This!

Guitar Picks Galore

9

Specials Galore

Picks By Manufacturer

Picks By Shape

Premium Guitar Picks

Shipping Information

Contact Us

When I look at these words that were bold or strong on
PicksGalore.com, I can see many keywords and phrases, such as
“picks,”

“guitar picks,”

Dunlop

and

“Red Bear
.

These are relevant
keywords and phrases because this website is a guitar accessory site,
and it is good that these words are bold or strong bec
ause they will
stick out to the user. These bold and strong keywords and phrases
will also help drive traffic to the site

through search engines
.

i.

Above the fold:

For the “above the fold” part of the homepage for
PicksGalore.com, I found the following image
s:

d’ddarrio guitar strings

red bear trading guitar picks

steve clayton guitar picks

john pearse guitar picks

dava guitar picks

dean markley guitar picks

fender guitar picks

everly guitar picks

elixir guitar strings

wegen guitar picks

10

jim dunlop guitar pic
ks

planet waves guitar picks

These images are important and relevant because they are brands of
guitar accessories that PicksGalore.com sells.
In the code, these
names are also the names of the images, which show that the
publisher knew what they were doi
ng when they were writing the
code. Additionally, “Picks Galore” is written at the top as a display
head, which helps the user figure out what site they are at. There are
also pictures of
credit cards that the site accepts

as payment up in the
right
-
hand

corner.

In the upper left corner, there are links labeled
“Picks,” “View Cart” and “Contact Us.” The word “picks” is a keyword I
have talked about before. The words “view cart” suggest to the user
that this is an e
-
commerce site, meaning that PicksGalo
re.com sells
guitar picks and other things on their site. The words “contact us”
tells the user that they can contact the website managers for help or
other information. On the left panel, there is a navigation bar that has
all of the tabs I talked about

earlier that were in bold or strong type,
including a few others: Specials Galore, Browse All Picks, Picks By
Manufacturer, Picks By Shape, Custom Picks, Primo Picks, Guitar
Strings, Guitar Accessories, Shipping Information and Contact Us.
These are impo
rtant and relevant because they tell the user many of
the kinds of guitar picks they have, along with other guitar accessories
and contact information.

When looking at this chart, it is easy to see that “picks” is the most abundant
keyword. I feel that it is the most abundant keyword because it is a very
general word, and when looking at the homepage of PicksGalore.com, the
word “picks” is in a lot of im
portant places, including the code. “Picks” is also
a very relevant keyword because PicksGalore.com sells guitar
picks
. Another
one
-
word keyword that is used frequently on PicksGalore.com is “guitar.”
This makes sense to me, again, because PicksGalore.c
om sells
guitar

picks,
and the word “guitar” describes what kind of picks. The least used one
-
word
keywords are “string” and “premium.” I feel that
“string” is one of

the least
used

words

because, first of all, it seems to me that PicksGalore.com sells
ma
inly

guitar
picks
, and not so much guitar
strings
.

I feel that the word
“premium” is another least used word because “premium” describes only one
type of guitar pick, and PicksGalore.com has many. I also feel that none of
these words are irrelevant. The most abundant 2
-
word keywords are “picks
12

galore”
and “guitar picks.” I feel that “picks galore” is used frequently
because it is the name of the website, and “guitar picks” is used frequently
because that is what PicksGalore.com sells. The least used 2
-
word keywords
are “galore picks,” “hottest selling
” and “guitar strings.” I feel that “galore
picks” is used less frequently because “picks galore” is the preferred phrase
since it is the name of the website. I also feel that “hottest selling” is used less
frequently because there would only need to be
one area on the website
labeled this. And lastly, I feel that “guitar strings is used less frequently
because PicksGalore.com sells
mainly

guitar
picks
, not necessarily guitar
strings
. Again, I feel that none of these keywords are irrelevant. Finally, t
he
most frequently used 3
-
word keywords are “red bear trading,” “dunlop
tortex picks” and “bear trading picks.” I feel that all of these keywords are
used most frequently because they all include popular brand names of guitar
picks. Some of the least fre
quently used 3
-
word keywords are “hottest
selling guitar,” “premium guitar picks” and “tortis red bear.”

I feel that
“hottest selling guitar” is less frequently used because “hottest selling” would
only need to be in one place on the website, not in many
places. I also feel
that “premium guitar picks” is less frequently used because “premium” guitar
picks describes only one type of guitar pick, and PicksGalore.com has many
more than that. And finally, I feel that “tortis red bear” is used less frequently

because it is an uncommon combination of the words.

Again, I feel that none
of these words are irrelevant.

4.

Location & Frequency/Density Observations

I feel that the words and phrases that PicksGalore.com is most optimized for
are:

guitar picks

I feel th
at “guitar picks” is one of the most optimized words on
PicksGalore.com because of its locations and density on the website.
First, is “guitar picks” was one of t
he highest
-
used 2
-
word keywords,
at an amount of 3 uses. Second, the phrase “guitar picks” i
s located in
the title tag, the ALT tags, the IMG names, the title attributes, and
numerous times “above the fold” on the homepage. “Guitar picks” was
also bold (<b>) and strong (<strong>) in numerous places in the code.
I also feel that this is a good p
hrase to be optimized for because guitar
picks are what the website sells.

picks galore

I feel that “picks galore” is one of the most optimized words on
PicksGalore.com because of its locations and density on the website.
First of all, “picks galore” was
another one of the highest
-
used 2
-
word
keywords, at an amount of 3 uses. Second, the phrase “picks galore” is
located in important locations like the URL, the title tag, the ALT tags,
the IMG names, the title attributes, and many times “above the fold.”
It was also bold (<b>) and (<strong>) in many places in the code as
well. Additionally, “Picks Galore” is the
name

of the website.

14

trading picks

I feel that “trading picks” is one of the most optimized words on
PicksGalore.com because of its locations an
d density on the website.
First, “trading picks” was another one of the highest
-
used 2
-
word
keywords, at an amount of 2 uses. Second of all, the phrase “trading
picks is located in important locations like the ALT tags, the IMG
names, the title attribute
s, and a few times “above the fold.” It was
also bold (<b>) and strong (<strong>) in a few places in the code as
well. This is a good phrase to be optimized for because the site does
sell “Red Bear Trading Picks,” which seem to be a popular brand of
guit
ar picks.

guitar

I feel that “
guitar
” is one of the most optimized words on
PicksGalore.com because of its locations and density

on the website.
First of all, “guitar” was one of the highest
-
used 1
-
word keywords, at
an amount of 5 uses. Second of all, the word “guitar” is located in
important locations on the website like the title tag, the ALT tags, the
IMG names, the title attr
ibutes and “above the fold.” It was also bold
(<b>) and (<strong>) in quite a few places in the code as well. I feel
that “guitar” is a good word to be optimized for because that is the
kind of “picks” that PicksGalore.com sells.

15

picks

I feel that “pic
ks” is one of the most optimized words on
PicksGalore.com because of its locations and density on the website.
First, “picks” was
the

highest
-
used 1
-
word keyword, at an amount of
11 uses. Second, the word “picks” is located in
all

of the important
locations on the website like the URL, the title tag, the ALT tags, the
IMG names, the title attributes and “above the fold” in many places. It
was also bold (<b>) and strong (<strong>) in many places in the code
as well. I feel that “p
icks” is a great word to be optimized for because
that
is

what the website sells.

***
Using all of this information, I have come to the conclusion that the
web publisher
somewhat

knows what they are doing. They have put
many important words in many of the
important locations on the
website, like the URL and the title tag. Unfortunately, the web
publisher has not included a
“description meta tag” or a “keyword
meta tag,” which are important locations for increasing optimization.

that the site is currently optimized for ranked very high in these search

keywords and keyphrases that will better optimize their website. In the next
section, I exp
lain what keywords and keyphrases would be better for
PicksGalore.com to use for better optimization.

When looking at my chosen keywords and the current words that the
website is most optimized for, I see quite a few differences. First, the only
keyphrase that was both a currently optimized word and one of my chosen
keywords was “guitar picks.” And now t
hat I am looking back at my chosen
keywords, I feel that they would not be the best words to recommend to
website for better optimization. The chart above illustrates this, as almost all
of my chosen words are not even ranked in most of the search engines
, which
17

means that they would not be good words for better optimization. When
looking at the homepage of PicksGalore.com, I can see that “custom guitar
picks,” “fender guitar picks,” “unique guitar picks” and “jazz guitar picks”
appear only once or twice,

meaning that they would not be good words to
use for better optimization. I feel that “guitar picks” is the only one of my
chosen words that would be a good recommendation for better optimization
because that is exactly what the PicksGalore.com sells.

7.

R
ecommendations for Improvements

Using all of the above information, I have come to the conclusion that my
keywords are NOT better than the currently optimized keywords. However,
I do feel that the website there are keywords and keyphrases that the
website

should use for better overall optimization and results in search
engine rankings. The keywords and keyphrases that I feel that site should
use for better optimization and overall search engine results are:

picks

guitar picks

galore

picks galore

guitar pi
cks galore

All of these words are words that the website is currently well
-
optimized for,
but I feel that they should use these words more often than they do. For
better overall results in search engine rankings, I feel that PicksGalore.com
18

needs to use these words more in the title tag, the description meta tag, the
keyword meta tag, the ALT tags, the IMG names, the title attributes, and
“above the fold.” They also need to make these words bold (<b>) and strong
(<strong>) in the code.
The
title tag of PicksGalore.com reads: “Guitar Picks
Galore,” which I feel is very good because the title tag is one of the most
important parts of a webpage for getting a good search engine ranking. It is
also one of the first things a user will see when th
ey are searching. An
effective title will help a website get a higher ranking in search engines. They
have also done a good job of keeping it short, and including very relevant and
important keywords. Unfortunately, PicksGalore.com does not have a
descr
iption meta tag or a keyword meta tag, which are both important
locations for keywords. Therefore, I would suggest to PicksGalore.com to
include a description meta tag and a keyword meta tag for better
optimization.

In addition to the words I listed abov
e, I feel that
PicksGalore.com should use more keywords and keyphrase on the site that
include the brand names of guitar picks and other accessories they sell. If
they do this, they will definitely be able to bring in more traffic, especially
users that a
re looking for specific brands of guitar picks and other
accessories.
In conclusion, keywords are important to include on a website
because
they help for better optimization of a website and for a higher
ranking in search engines.

If the website does all

of the things I have
suggested, I feel that it will increase its traffic, optimization and overall
search engine results.
