Installing Webmin In RedHat 9, RedHat Enterprise 4 or Enterprise 5

These instructions are for installing the Webmin Administration console in RedHat operating systems.
These must be followed to a tee. The webmin manual can be found at

Installing Webmin

1.

Log in to the customers system, preferably using SSH (TCP port 22) with username of either
“pick” or “root” and with password of “keypos”. <en
ter>

a.

Type “wget dbmsinc.com/
support
/webmin.sh”

b.

Change the permissions on the script by typing “chmod 755 webmin.sh”

c.

Execute the script by typing “./webmin.sh”

d.

If the script runs successfully, go to Step 8a

e.

If it doesn’t run correctly, go to step 2

2.

Once
presented with the shell prompt (#), type “cd /keypos” <enter>

Next, at the shell prompt (#), enter “mkdir webmin” <enter>

4.

Next, type “dir” <enter> and verify that the webmin folder has been created in the tmp folder

5.

Fetch the Webmin.tar.gz file
from the DBMS FTP server by typing

“wget
www.dbmsinc.com/support/webmin
-
1.520.tar.gz"

a.

If DNS is configured correctly, it should download the file to the /keypos/webmin folder

b.

If

DNS is not configured correctly, verify connection to a DNS server by executing “vi
/etc/resolv.conf” and check for any lines that read “nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”

6.

Execute “tar

xzvf webmin
-
1.520.tar.gz” <enter>. This unzips Webmin’s source package.

7.

Open the Webmin
-
1.520 folder that has been created using “cd ./webmin
-
1.520” <enter>.

8.

Run “sh ./setup.sh” <enter> , enter the following options at each prompt

a.

Config file directory: /etc/webmin

b.

Log file directory: /var/webmin

c.

If the installa
tion asks for the path to Perl: /usr/bin/perl

d.

Web server port: 10000

e.

Login name: root

f.

Login password: keypos

g.

Password again: keypos

h.

If the installation prompts for Use SSL: y (this is required for secure traffic)

i.

Start Webmin at boot
time: y

9.

Webmin will then run its scripts to configure the application.

a.

If SSL was installed: connect to
https://cust.omer.IP.Address:10000

Login name: root

Password: keypos

b.

If SSL WAS NOT installed
: connect to
http
://cust.omer.IP.Address
:10000

and go to step

IF SSL WAS NOT INSTALLED!!!!

Once your web browser opens and you connect to the POS server, expand the others and

click on Perl Modules.

Click on the Suggested Modules tab

Highlight the Net::SSLeay selection and click the install selected module button.

Webmin will then install the SSL components, then double check that the install action is set
to make, test and
install, then click Continue with Install

Click Return to Modules list at the bottom of the screen

Expand the Webmin Group, click on Webmin Configuration

Click on SSL Encryption, fill the Enable SSL if available bullet to yes and fill the Redirect non
-
SSL
requests to SSL
-
mode to Yes

Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Close your browser window. Reopen it and go to
https
://cust.omer.IP.Address
:10000

Login name: root

Password
: keypos
