Magnetic EMF shields come in two basic ty
pes: passive and active systems. Passive shields use rigid

and then generate a magnetic field in response. Whether passive or active shielding is more effective in
a given situation depends on the nature of the radiation source.
EMF radiation can affect the home as well as the workplace. Houses built under
power lines or near
large transformers can have dangerously high levels of EMF. Even metal water pipes can conduct the
fields into the house. One test that can easily be conducted at home is to hook up a color monitor to a
computer, turn both devices on,
and rotate the monitor through 360 degrees. If the image on the
monitor screen distorts or jitters, there is a strong magnetic field present.
