VISUAl STylE
The visual style of Heavenly Goods is a traditional yet fun and clean interface. When you think of the word Heaven you think
of clouds and angels. This is why elements of both are used through out its design.
lOGO
The logo needed to fit various forms of media it needed to stand out enough for a sign but smooth enough to fit on a baker’s
box or any other packaging such as a label. It also needed to have a feel of an icon for mobile.
TyPEFACE AND OTHER ElEMENT
The logo uses diavlo black as its typeface It uses a light blue color pallet along with angel wings and a halo to give it a
heavenly feel.

bread pudding and ice cream in the spring and pumpkin cupcakes & coffee in the fall to loyal customers
who are in the cafe’s email database. These notifications send them to pages on the app where they can
buy one of the examples via their small mobile device.

COMPARATIVE PROJECT RESEARCH //
SITE OVERVIEW
: Trolley Car Diner is a diner, deli and ice cream shop. Trolley Car Diner uses
a flash based interface for its information based web site.
USER REqUIREMENTS:
This site was created so users are able to view a variety of menus
from the diner by downloading them in Adobe Reader format. Get the history of the diner,
contact information, and get information about catering. Subscribe to the diner’s email list
view and view a video message.
VISUAl DESIGN:
The site’s color pallet varies based on what section the user clicks on. The
background color is overlapped by a color in the same hue to show what part of the site the
users have desired.
RElEVANCE TO PROJECT:
Trolley Car Diner has a close demographic to the users of the
project that I am creating for my thesis but lacks the functionality that is required to take my
thesis project to an interactive level. My project core users are families and people who love
high quality food but are affordable.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Foodies, couples and families who like to go out to affordable good food.
STRENGTHS
• This site’s navigation system allows you to find the major links and sections of the site.
• Users are able to find content site wide.
CONTENT ANAlySIS:
The content of the site give the user basic info about the diner and
allows users to download various menus that the diner has available.
WEAKNESS:
The entire site is flash based and the text site wide is rendered static which
would be an issue for various reasons including: SeO, the visually impaired and mobile
devices. The color scheme varies on each section of the site which could confuse the user
where they are on the site by having the color of section highlighted in darker colors.
INTERACTION MODEl
• Flash based site with navigations system that links to various sections of the site.
• Buttons that direct you to download menus and to a sign up form when user clicks sign
up link.
CONClUSION:
This site could have been developed a better way since the flash used makes
it inaccessible in various ways. They could have given a tour of the dinner, made the text
dynamic so that I could be accessible and used brighter colors on certain sections.

RElEVANCE TO PROJECT:
Pizza Hut has similar functions to my project to create an
experience that works for desktop browsers and mobile browsers alike
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Families, Pizza lovers, College Students and sports fans.
CONTENT ANAlySIS:
The content of the site give the user basic info about the diner and
allows users to download various menus that the diner has available.
STRENGTHS
• Site has a consistent layout and navigation system
• Site is easy to use
• Site functions well in all browsers
• Mobile App version and Mobile site version
WEAKNESS:
limited choices and the placement of where you want the toppings on your
pizza maybe confusing.
INTERACTION MODEl
• Interactive design, HTMl, CSS and Javascript
• Flash
CONClUSION:
Pizza Huts clean design and interactivity fit perfectly with its style and
products. This rich internet application does a good job of providing the user with the abilty

: Perkins is an interactive informational site for family oriented
bakery and restaurant.
USER REqUIREMENTS:
The site was created so users could find the closest Perkins location
near them, view the most up to date menu and get information on all things Perkins related.
Users can also order gift cards and send them any where they desire.
VISUAl DESIGN:
Perkins uses a green white and yellow color pallet on a black background
along with various uses of flash to develop the best and user-friendly design of all of the
sites.
RElEVANCE TO PROJECT:
Perkins is the direct competitor of my project in location as well as
products creates Its a direction that would be great for my project because they started out
as a family oriented business that used a lot of techniques that would be perfect for use if
implemented properly.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Foodies, couples and families who like to go out to affordable good food.
STRENGTHS
• Site has a consistent layout and navigation system
• Site is easy to use
• Has something for all family members
WEAKNESS:

INTERACTION MODEl

• Buttons that direct you to download menus and to a sign up form when user clicks sign
up link.
CONClUSION:
Perkins uses a combination of flash, html, css, ajax to give a user experience
to get info about the closest Perkins location near them, what the menu options are at
that location and what the current specials are. It is missing an order to go option that the
Cheesecake Factory but it works for their users.

SITE OVERVIEW
: Isaac’s is an interactive informational site for a deli/restaurant that has
an eclectic look and menu. This has allowed them to create an application with some
interesting functions..
USER REqUIREMENTS:
The site was created so users could get information about the deli/
restaurant, find the closest Isaac’s location near them, and view the most up to date
menu, order food to go online, purchase merchandise and gift cards online, build your own
sandwich and ask their mascot questions online.
VISUAl DESIGN:
Isaac’s has a playful and creative design unlike the previous sites mention
uses no flash. It uses a bright blue color that compliments their pink flamingo mascot that
was inspired by the 80’s TV show Miami Vice.
RElEVANCE TO PROJECT:
Isaac’s is also a major competitor of my project in location as has 6
locations in the same area. Functionality is the major relevance as it has various JavaScript
forms for ordering to go online, ordering merchandise and getting it shipped, to building
your own sandwich that communicate with asp.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
People who love 80’s pop culture, foodies, couples and families who like
to go out to affordable restaurants with good food with healthy options.
STRENGTHS
• Site has a consistent layout and navigation system
• Site is easy to use
WEAKNESS:
Forms could use some validation
CONTENT ANAlySIS:
The content of the site is well done. You are giving a variety of menu
items to choose from, get an idea of what the restaurants look like, and find a location near
you, as well as order products online.
INTERACTION MODEl
• Website design classic asp and JavaScript
CONClUSION:
Isaac’s playful design and interactivity fit perfectly with its style and menu. The
application that was created works for them however it is missing a visual element
and validation in its forms.

USER TESTING - CARD SORT //
I
contacted 15 users to do a card sorting exercise that would help me organize the navigation structure
only 10 responded. I created 3 categories and 30 cards in which I asked them to place these cards
into. Without having cards that made it obvious what categories they belonged to,the testers involved
provided feed back such as various cards could be in multiple categories Bellow is the data from this test.
