Organizations are concerned about protecting their sensitive data from loss and misuse, whether it’s data governed by regulations, intellectual property or other company confidential information. There are many point solutions in the market that offer data loss prevention (DLP) as a feature which enables organizations to begin protecting their sensitive data at a single egress point. However, many of these solutions are poor in accuracy, which leads to data loss and a higher total cost of ownership to manage the output of false positives.

organizations are concerned about protecting their sensitive data from loss and misuse,
whether it’s data governed by regulations, intellectual property or other company
confidential information. there are many point solutions in the market that offer data loss
prevention (DLP) as a feature which enables organizations to begin protecting their
sensitive data at a single egress point. However, many of these solutions are poor in
accuracy, which leads to data loss and a higher total cost of ownership to manage the
output of false positives. Point solutions also tend to have weak workflow options for
managing incidents, which is a vital part in reducing the risk uncovered by DLP. in
addition, if organizations want to expand DLP coverage beyond a single egress point,
they are required to completely introduce another solution, which means that there will
be inconsistent protection of data with different data classification engines in use,
multiple consoles to manage, and additional hardware to purchase.

RSA and Cisco have collaborated to provide a solution that allows organizations to start
with DLP protection for email and then organically expand coverage to other threat
vectors in the most efficient way possible.
in 2009, Cisco embedded RSA Data Loss Prevention technology into their ironPort email
security solution so that organizations could easily begin using data loss prevention for
email, one of the major egress points for data loss. By embedding the market leading
RSA DLP technology, Cisco provides ironPort customers with:
– Ability to identify sensitive data with best-in-class accuracy
– extensive global coverage for various types of data
(regulatory and compliance data and more)
– Comprehensive remediation options
– ease of deployment
Key Points
1) Coverage for all types of data – Pii,
credit card data, intellectual
property, etc.
2) Best-in-class accuracy with
sophisticated content analysis
3) Comprehensive incident workflow
to reduce risk
4) organically expand DLP beyond
email to social media, endpoints,
etc.
5) Reduce tCo by leveraging existing

“We’ve been very
impressed with the RSA
Data Loss Prevention
Suite. it helps educate
users on correct e-mail
practices while flagging
potential risks to our
administrators. the dual
approach has
accelerated our journey
to compliance, reducing
risk exposure 75% in

now in 2012, there is direct integration between the Cisco ironPort email Security
Appliance (eSA) and RSA DLP enterprise manager, the over-arching management console
for the RSA DLP Suite. this integration allows organizations to make their ironPort email
DLP deployment up to 3 times more powerful. With this new integration administrators
can:
– Expand DLP protection. easily expand beyond email to protect sensitive data in other threat
vectors such as web, endpoints, SharePoint, etc.
– Protect more types of sensitive data. Protect more types of data, including intellectual
property, financial documents, etc. with additional content analysis techniques, such as file
and database fingerprinting and custom rules.
– Better manage incident workflow. RSA DLP enterprise manager provides a comprehensive
incident workflow to help investigate, remediate and report on incidents from across the
enterprise.
