"
Intelligent
Sensing
Fundamentals

and Applications
"

The Theme:

Intelligent sensing is a cross
-
discipline
that dedicates to joint research on
the basic theory and technology of signal
acquisition, information abstraction, data communication and system control. Intelligent sensing
technology has

been driven by

innovative sensing electronics, computational intelligence algorithms and real
-
world ap
plication requirements
.
Sensing modules are the
front
-
end devices for information acquisition from the natural and/or artificial world. Higher p
erformance of sensing systems can be

achieved b
y using various types of computational

intelligence.
The marriage of
hardware
sensing modules and computational intelligence
algorithms makes the sensing system
s

adaptable to the environment and optimizes system
s

performance. The intelligent algorithms play a
crucial role in reducing the
workload

of the sens
ing modules and the over
-
all system
s

by extracting necessary information from the
sensing components and transmit the useful information to the system
s
.

The aim of this
Special Section

is to bring together researchers,
engineers and practitioners to prese
n
t and analyze the issues inherent in intelligent sensing from the source of hardware sensors to
conveying quantitative or qualitative information to a user or a system, in order to review the
state of the art in intelligent

sensing and

to

identify the futu
re directions and challenges.
Papers are sought that address
innovative
technological advancements and application in
intelligent sensing, including innovative
measurement

systems, computational intelligence methodologies that enable systems to achieve
and maintain high performance under uncertain conditions. Topics of interest of this Special Section include, but are not lim
ited to:

Fundamentals of instrumentation and mea

Submissions to this Special Section must represent original material that

has been neither submitted to, nor published in, any other
journal. Extended versions of papers previously published in conference proceedings may be eligible for consideration if cond
itions listed
in
