Aims and scope:Control components,development of block diagrams for control systems,analysis,
and computer simulations.Four design methods:Pole placement,model matching,root-locus,and
Bode-plot methods.Quadratic optimal design and computer simulation.

Computer:MATLAB is available in all university computing sites.(The MATLAB in the depart-
mental CAD lab is not complete.) Its use will be discussed in the class.
Homework:Problems will be assigned but will not be graded.The solutions manual is available
on the blackboard.The only way to learn a topic is to solve problems yourself,even incorrectly.
You should refer to the manual only after you have tried them.
Tests and grades:There are four tests to be posted on Blackboard.No makeup test.In each test,
you may bring in one sheet (8.5"x12") with whatever information you wish.Sum the three bests of
the four tests.Grade will be based on curving and distribution.
