IN THE YEAR 3535, humans, after hundreds of years of constant effort, have
successfully polluted all bodies of water on Earth. As a result, almost all
previously known species of plant, animal, and other life have become extinct.
Through natural selection, genetic engineering, and selective breeding
programs, a portion of the Earth has been successfully repopulated. The
following organisms are all that remain:

1.

Photosynthetic sun
-
basking “sharks”
. Their green fins have chlorophyll
to
convert sunlight to energy. Their cells do have cell walls with
cellulose.

2.

Aquatic humanoids
whose main diet is aqua
-
wheat and basking sharks. They
have fins instead of legs. All humanoid cells do not have cell walls.

3.

Aqua
-
wheat
: one of the few “plants”

that remain; it is similar shape to
algae but it is purple and is actually a heterotroph
with

cells walls
made of chitin.

4.

Terrestrial Humanoids
, their diet consists of butter
-
roaches and fuzzy
hamsters.

5.

Tentacled aqua humanoids
that feed on aqua
-
wheat and

have tentacles for
arms and legs.

6.

Giant Aqua
-
spiders
that live in water and feed on goldfish and basking
sharks. They have cell walls made of chitin and do not move.

7.

Green
-
haired rats
have 4 legs and are photosynthetic and have cell walls
made of cellulos
e.

8.

Ten
-
legged fleas
are now microscopic, unicellular, have cell walls made
of peptidoglycan, and live on the photosynthetic rats.

9.

Poison “Grass”


this organism is on land and is a hybrid between grass
and poison ivy. The plants are toxic to almost everyth
ing. This organism
is a heterotroph and has cell walls with cellulose in them.

10.

Butter
-
roaches
: genetic engineering created these butterfly
-
like
creatures from cockroaches. Butter
-
roaches are now unicellular, live in
harsh environments (because they eat poi
son grass), and have cell walls
that do not contain peptidoglycan.


Your Job
: As an alien taxonomist, it is your responsibility to classify these
existing organism.


1.

Redefine the 6 Kingdoms in order to be able to correctly separate the 10
organisms in to
the 6 different Kingdoms.



Redefine each Kingdom. Include single/multi celled,
eukaryote/prokaryote, reproduction, obtain energy, movement, and
habitat.



Give explanation as to why each organism was
placed in the Kingdom.

Create Scientific Names



Remember,
the rules for scientific names


include the genus and
species, Latin sounding, and written in the form:
Genus species

(Genus is capitalized and species is not)

3.

Illustrate each organism



Based on the description, create an image of the organism. (You may
u
se computer graphics, however you must create something new. This
creatures will not be found just by searching.)

4.

Prepare a dichotomous key for these organisms



This key will help your fellow aliens can identify them when they
come to Earth for their summer

vacations. Remember that a
dichotomous key is based on appearance, str
ucture, and diet of the
organism
.

Presentation

t the information.
