LIBRARY REGISTRATION

BIOSTORE

For several years the college has used “biometric
recognition” in place of library cards.

There are obvious advantages to this in that there
are no cards to lose or forget and every borrower is
uniquely identified.
However, some people DO still
have misgivings over the use of biometrics, so here
are some of the facts:

Your
fingerprint

is NOT stored on any system

The scanner

converts

it to a unique 110 digit
code

Fingerprints cannot be re
constituted from the
110 di
git code

The files containing the unique numbers are
used only by
t
hree

authorised users
;

they
cannot be

read

by any other person and they
are NOT available to any outside agency

All
biometric
files are erased once a student
has left the college

Your
details remain fully protected under the
Data Protection Act

Should you still
wish
not
to
give a biometric we will
issue you with a
Library Card

which must be used
for all
subsequent
Library borrowing.
