PURPOSE:

These funds are to be distributed and used specifically to plan, design, purchase and install robot systems to equip students for science,
technology, engineering and math competitions at public schools statewide. These funds are only for the purchase of kits, computers, spare
parts, equipment and software. Districts and schools will meet the requirements listed in this application.
The New Mexico Public Education Department’s (PED) Math and Science Bureau (MSB) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to all
New Mexico districts and public schools.

GOALS:

To implement robotics programs in schools throughout the state.
To build capacity within in the schools and amongst teachers to conduct robotics programs that will increase student’s skills.

ELIGIBILITY:

All public schools and districts that demonstrate a commitment to engaging students in a robotics program are eligible for this robotics
funding.

RFI Application 2012-2013
Robotics Program
Page | 3

Demonstrated commitment is determined by evidence provided in the RFI which must address and include justification for the following
proposal elements:

1. Robotics program goals. Are these goals measureable? How will program demonstrate that the goals have been met?
2. Plan. What is the two-year plan for the robotics program? What is your detailed overview of this proposed robotics program? The
first invoice MUST be received prior to November 1, 2012. Has the school had a robotics program in previous years? If so, describe
lessons learned from previous program. If so, what equipment do you have?
3. Competition. How does preparing for a robotics competition help meet school’s overall Educational Plan for Student Success
(EPSS) goals? How does this competition help meet school’s robotics program goals?
4. Students. Targeted age or grade groups? How many students?
5. Teacher training. To have a robust robotics program, teachers must be equipped to lead these programs. Where will they receive
the needed training? Describe the training content and schedule.
6. Staffing. Who will lead the robotics program? It should be a team of teachers (at least 2), so that if one leaves, there will be another
to keep the program going.
7. Location. Where and when will robotics program be held? In a dedicated classroom? During the school day? Every day? Before
or after school?
8. Materials. Kits, laptops, spare parts, software (not licenses for software), and equipment. What is needed to have a successful
program?
9. Sustainability. To support the robotics program beyond the scope of this funding and to support participation in competitions (fees,
transport, travel costs, teacher training, and other costs), will other funds be necessary? If so, will operational dollars be applied? If
not operational dollars, how will other funds be raised to provide money to support all needed costs? Local funding sources? Other
grants or awards?
10. Project evaluation. How will you evaluate the effectiveness of this program?
11. Budget. Detailed justification of budget (supplies, teacher training, equipment costs, fees, registration, travel, etc).
