THE VITAL ROLE SMES PLAY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF
THE US AND CHINESE ECONOMIES
The development and promotion of small to medium
sized enterprises (SMEs) has been critical to the
development of the US and Chinese economies, and will
be the pillar for future growth and prosperity.
The US economy and its emergence as a world economic
power were founded on the development of US SMEs
and the establishment of the middle class in the US.
There are over 8 million Chinese SMEs. They account for
99 percent of the country's total enterprises. They
contribute roughly 59 percent of GDP, 50 percent of tax
revenues, 68 percent of foreign trade volume, and 75
percent of urban employment.
