Download X1.zip from ROAD and unzip it to extract a folder ca
lled “XX1”. This folder
contains

java source files and the input file INPUT.TXT.


Rename the folder
to source
1.


If using TextPad.

1. Open

the folder and use TextPad to open and compile each

java file.

2. The main driver file is called driver.java. To run the system
,

open this file with
TextPad and run as an application.

3. When the system is complete and ready

to be submitted, copy your source
1 folder to
the mcs231 folder in your student sto
rage.


If using NetBeans.

1.

Create a beanprojects folder and place source1 inside it.

2.

Start NetBeans

3.

Select File/New Project…

4.

Select General/Java Project with existing Sources/Next

5.

Specify Project Name prog1 for example

Specify Project Folder c:
\
beanproj
ects
\
prog1 for example

Next


6. Specify Package Folders A
ddFolder/ specify the beanprojects
\
source
1 folder


Just use the default package


Finish

Open the default package


you should see all the source files with little binary


i
cons attached which indicates the classes are not compiled. You can view a
source file by double clicking on it.

Select Build/Build Main Project. Note how the
binary icons disappear indicating

a
compiled class.

At this point NetBeans has created a prog1 f
older in your beanprojects folder.
This is where NetBeans stores project files. Open the beanprojects
\
prog1 folder.

You will find a build folder
. Inside the build folder is a classes folder. Inside the
classes folder are compiled classes. You also will fin
d the INPUT.TXT file. Move
INPUT.TXT so that it is outside the build folder (but inside the prog1 folder).
This is so that NetBeans can find the input file.

Return to NetBeans and select Run/Run Main project. “driver” is the main class to

Run.

The graph
ics viewer should appear and the text viewer is shown in the output
window. Double click on the output window to change size.

When the system is complete and ready to be submitted, copy your source1 folder
to the mcs231 folder in your student storage.






If using Eclipse.

1.

Create a workspace folder
and a source folder. Place source1 inside the
source folder
.

2.

Start Eclipse

3.

Select File/New/Java Project

4.

Select Create project from existing source

Specify

source
\
source1

Specify project name prog1 for exampl
e.


Just use the default package


Next/Finish

5.

Eclipse automatically compiles all the source files.

6.

Open the default package


you should see all the source files.

7.

Right click on driver.java and select Run as Ja
va Application
. Eclipse
should have no problem finding the input file INPUT.TXT.

8.

The graphics viewer should appear and the te
xt viewer is shown in the
console

window to change size.
