of the Workshop


Despite the extraordinary advances in computin
g
technology, we continue to need greater and
greater computing power. High performance
computing (HPC) is becoming an important
underpinning of many domains of research. As
individual compute processors have essentially
reached their performance limits, t
he need for
greater computing power can only be met through
the use of parallel computers. Recent years has
seen use of parallel systems with trends towards
heterogeneous systems consisting of general
-
purpose cores and acceleration devices.

In order to ut
ilize the available HPC infrastructure
to its full potential, knowledge of computing
architecture, parallel algorithm design and
advanced data structures, is essential. This
Workshop is designed to introduce the different
aspects of parallel and heterogene
ous computing
and the use of available programming interfaces


(MPI, CUDA, and Open

application goals. The course is unique due to its
application orientation and introduces the
necessary underlying computer science and
engineer
ing knowledge to solidify understanding.
This course will benefit faculties, researchers, post
graduate students, and practitioners in
computational science and engineering disciplines,
with a focus on education and research.
