IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition

Internal FAQs

Q: What happened to Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.4? Was 8.5.4 is renamed to Notes and Domino
9.0 Social Edition?

A: There will still be a Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.4 maintenance release. It is
currently tracking to
Q3 2013. Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.4 will likely be the last Maintenance Release (MR) of
Notes/Domino 8.5. Beyond IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition, we are planning MRs and major
releases. Updated roadmaps are available on
IBM Software Sellers Workplace
.

Q: There are 2 kinds of expressions for Notes/Domino next release, Notes/Domino 9 and
Notes/Domino Social Edition. Will those be differen
t products or same products? Or will Social
Edition be one of the offerings of Notes/Domino 9?

A: There should always be one expression: IBM Notes and Domino 9 Social Edition.

Q: Will the all N/D 8.5 customers (including Express offerings) who will have
active S&S on the GA
date of Notes/Domino 9 have the entitlements of all new functions (mainly, embedded experience,
activity stream, and Notes plug
-
in for IE/Firefox) of Social Edition?

A: Yes, as appropriate to their license type. For example, the Notes
browser plug
-
in licensing is the
same as the Notes client for applications
-

Enterprise CAL, CEO Comms, and Collaboration Express
only.

Q: Will it be required for users to install a separated module from the standard IBM Notes and
Domino 9.0 Social Editi
on installation, or will this be provided as separate options with additional
upgrade fees?

A: The Activity Stream comes from IBM Connections 4 and requires a full IBM Connections 4.0 license.
All other capabilities are part of the standard install or avai
lable as no
-
cost entitlements from Passport
Advantage or the IBM Collaboration Solutions Catalog.

Q: Support for the current 8.5 release is planned through at least 2016. Does it mean that the EOS
date will be on or after the end of April, 2016?

A: Afte
r, with no specified date. IBM has not yet set the EOS for Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5. We
wanted to make the 2016 statement so that customers would be comforted now that it is far into the
future. Here is the link to the related technote:

Q: Will the 3 additional support periods be provided by IBM Technology Services for Lotus Notes
and Domino 8.5 in accordance with 5 + 3 po
licy? Can any customer extend the support period till
2019 if the additional fee is paid?

A: The plan is that 3 years extended support would be available after any EOS of Lotus Notes and
Domino 8.5. IBM has have not set a date for EOS for Lotus Notes and
Domino 8.5.

Q: Can I purchase a Support Extension (SE) for a product older than "N
-
2"?

A: Yes, if not covered by the initiative or greater than N
-
2. Support policies have not changed. For
those products with the N
-
2 version level initiative applied,
until N
-
2 is passed an SE would not be
necessary. An SE could be purchased after the N
-
2 time period has passed for up to two additional
years for Standard and three additional years for Enhanced Policies.

Q: What migration path from which versions will
be available for IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social
Edition? Will 6.5.x be included in the migration path?

A: Migration from Lotus Notes and Domino 6.5 is not officially supported but it should work. Lotus
Notes and Domino 6.5 is an EOS version of the product

and IBM no longer supports or has the
capacity to test migrations. However, as IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition has much the same
codebase as Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.4 beta, IBM understands what upgrade capabilities exist
from earlier versions
of the client.
