SUNY Upstate Medical University BS Program in Medical Technology




Program History (Yrs. In Existence)

1.

The Baccalaureate Program in Medical Technology has been in continuous operation at
the State University of New York at Syracuse since 1965.


2.

The SUNY Upstate Medical University is accredited by the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools. The Program in Medical Technology is registered
through the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) approved for distance
educatio
n

and designated as a licensure qualifying program. It is also accredited by
National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Additionally, all
educational programs at SUNY Upstate Medical University are approved by the Veterans
Adm
inistration for the training if veterans under Public Law 98
-
358.


3.

The Program consists of two years (60 credits) of prerequisite college work transferred
in and coupled with the five semester curriculum at Upstate Medical University (a 2+2
program).
The
majority of the senior year is spent in clinical rotations.

Medical Technology is concentrated in one discipline (Microbiology, Hematology, or
Chemistry).

Technology and Medical Biotechology BS programs. We offer part time study as an
option, which is reflected in our total numbers.

ability to offer our programs to underserved areas.
