As shown in
the
above diagram
,

each applicant needs to produce a “qualification file”. The
qualification file serves two purposes:

1.

It enables EFQM to carry out the qualification phase and determine whether your
organisation is
eligible

to participate.

2.

The document is also given to the Assessor team and enables them to have

a

high level
understanding of your organisation
.

To complete
the submission each applicant has two options to choose from in order to further
complement the Qualification file. You can choose to provide

1.

an e
nabler map or

2.

Categories

As
in
previous

years
,

f
or the 20
1

Award
cycle the
re

are
four categories
.
Two
categories

are for

the
private
for
-
profit

sector

organis
ations
and
two for

the
public
not
-
for
-
profit sector
.
Within
each
sector there
is category
for the
small and medium
organisations
, and one for the
large and very
large
organisations
. The difference between small and big is based on parameters that define the
scope, size and complexity of an applicant’s organisation. In this way organisations with a
comparable challenge to achieve excellence in all its aspects are put in
the same group, and the
positioning of the winners is clear.

Ultimately it will be the
EFQM
,
with the help of the jury members

if necessary
,

that will decide
for
which

category

each applicant competes. As soon as possible after your application this will b
e
confirmed to you.

Eligibility

Eligibility
rules apply for participation as the
EFQM

tries to drive for
a diverse and high level set of
role model applicants. These rules strike a balance between creating as diverse a set of role models
as possible and
encouraging the best to be successful.

P
ast
Award
winners are excluded for a period

of three years

For each EEA

category

an organisation or unit winning the award cannot apply again
for a further three elapsed years e.g. If you win in 20
1
4

you cannot apply

again until
201
7
.

Organisations wishing to apply for the EFQM Excellence Award are required to
either
be
an

EFQM member

or become and EFQM member
.

Since EFQM is a sharing platform

the

m
embers value the benefits of sharing best practices, which is why our
network is so
effective.

As an EFQM member, you have privileged access to a wealth of data, knowledge
and user communities focused on the practical application of leading
-
edge business
improvement techniques.

Joining EFQM sends out

the powerful message to

your customers,
suppliers, partners and employees that you are committed to the principles of business
excellence.

Highest scores get the priority.

The recognition levels within the award

The highest level, an
Award Winner
, is given when the Jury identifies an exceptional organisation
with excellent and sustainable results across all areas, and demonstrates a
highly effective, efficient
and continuously improved management system. These winners are therefore role models and can
be seen as living real life examples in all dimensions of the EFQM Excellence Model

In addition to being a Finalist, the Jury and Assessors teams carefully make a judgement based on
the 8 Fundamental Concepts embedded into the EFQM Model. When one of these concepts appears
as a golden thread within an organisation and clearly has its impa
ct on outstanding and sustainable
results a
Prize

is
awarded
.

Organisation
s

recognised as
a
Finalist
are able to demonstrate a high level of maturity in many
aspects of their approaches and the execution of their strategy and the achievement of good resul
ts
in all result areas of EFQM Excellence Model in a sustainable way. Achieving the recognition as a
F
inalist in this competition is a strong confirmation of being a clear role model and source of
inspiration for other organisations.

For those not achievi
ng the Finalist level, on request
,

the recognition with the corresponding level of
Recognised for Excellence can be issued.
