District Heating as an efficient energy system for
distributing heat generated in a central station
to residential and commercial customers for
heating buildings and hot water uses, will reduce
the energy consumption and emissions of
greenhouse gasses. This will lead to c
onformity
with the EU and the national energy targets for
2020 and contribution to the global effort to
confront the climate change
.


Project is expected to contribute to a significant
reduction in the cost of heating that is estimated
to be up to 50% which will have direct positive
effects on country's economy.

Joint fire protection plan involves 13
municipalities (9 from Macedonia and 4 from
Greece), local fire brigades of
Pelagonia

and
Florina

region municipalities, national
institutions. Project area of around 300.000
citizens from the regions will benefit from the
implementation of the project since regional
authorities and fire brigades present common
dedication to improve protection of natural,
cultural and human resources in the region.


Capacity building that involves provision of
technical resources, upgrading of the brigadiers
IT skills, establishing volunteer motorbike team,
sharing of satellite monitoring photos and
experience sharing is an effort to secure
integrated protection and management of the
ecosystem and sustainable usage of the natural
resources.

A cultural and social dimension of the
municipalities was reinforced trough cross

border events: annual carnival in
Korca
, summer

various artists and orchestras in both cities.


Handcrafts, photography, cinema and film
making workshops were exceptional opportunity
for groups of unemployed young people from
both municipalities to develop new skills for
employment.


Strengthened cultural relations increased the
number of visits, brought down the prejudges
and motivated new relations, cooperation and
friendships between the cultural cities from

Results from the comparative analysis based on
the regional data for 16 sites of the SEE area for
solar system characteristics for 6 different solar
collector solutions, and fuel characteristics for
light fuel oil and natural gas showed that Skopje
has the highest potential for use of solar energy
among analyzed cities.


Since majority of cities in Macedonia have
identical or more sunny days as Skopje during
the year such potential needs to be efficiently
exploited and used.

certification that are competitive to other

(DMCSEE) will serve as an operative center for
drought preparedness, monitoring and
management in order to coordinate and
integrate the services related to drought in the
wider SEE region including Macedonia.


All project partners successfully developed and
adopted common methodology for drought risk
management, established a drought monitoring
system using good practices from
climatological

monitoring and mapping system, and
established a web page including web
-
based GIS
client for exchange of spatial information and
provision of common regional maps.
