Objectives

The objectives of this module are to help you:

Understand how the wizards in the Express Runtime
Development Environment can automate the process of
creating application wrappers for
an existing WebSphere
application

Understand how to integrate this application wrapper
into a
solution that you can deploy to customers in one
package with one installation
using
Express Runtime
Deployment Wizard

How will the wizard benefit you?

Manual steps installing an application on WAS

Deploying a simple application e.g. 'Hello World' requires the
following to be configured via WAS Admin Console:

Associate configuration file
s

to the application server

Generate each configuration file using Deployment Descriptor

Set an appropriate directory for the server instance

Define variables

If
a
n application includes JDBC settings, you also need to configure
directory for
r
esources

The WebSphere Application wizard will:

Eliminate ALL the above steps

the wizard extracts your
application's configuration

Create an Express Runtime Application Project for you

Create all application resources and bind your application to these
resources

you no longer have to create JACL scripts yourself

This
new feature will

save you 30

55 pages of installation guides

has done all the work
required to create an
application project for a
WebSphere application

If you would like to review
the scripting, you can see
this in the
src

folder of the
Navigator view

Generating an integrated solution wrapper

The next step is creating

a solution project that combines
the WebSphere auto
-
generated application with required
middleware and configuration information about this
middleware

To add the WebSphere application to an integrated solution,
you need to perform the following tasks

Create a solution project or copy a sample solution

Add your task to the solution
