An indeterminate beam loading scenario (similar to a diving board), as shown below, will
be demonstrated in recitation sections during week #9

1. Using EES, Appendix A-24 formulas (you may not use Appendix A-25 formulas)
and the data collected in your recitation/lab section:
a. Solve for all reactions
b. Calculate the total negative “y” deflection at the free end of the beam
c. Determine the beam location corresponding to a maximum positive “y”
deflection – you may use trial and error with EES to find this location.
2. Submit your EES solution into your lecture section dropbox prior to your lecture
on Monday, February 15, 2010.
