DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
The EC 700 is a programmable multi-zone time switch which uses radio signals to send switching instructions to heating appliances.
Heating zones may be created by giving them a name, a named zone may then be given a programme.
Programmes consists of 7 individual and separate days (Monday to Sunday).
Each Day is divided into 48 half hourly periods which may be set to be either (on) or (off).
Individual or group Override facility for Holidays and Frost protection is provided.
The EC 700 unit sends radio frequency signals to the heating appliances, which are then switched between their Comfort mode or
Economy modes, according to the status of the programme being transmitted.
Each heating appliance receiver has its own individual name (code)
which must be assigned to a zone. The heater receiver then receives
specific programme instructions from the EC 700 for that particular zone.
A zone may have as many receiver names assigned to it as is required,
from 1 to over 200 where necessary.
Panel Heaters can be provided with Integral receiver ( RDC-700 )
RS 700 and RSX 700 receivers are available for control of
additional fixed appliances such as towel rails or
immersion heater circuits and RCE 700 adaptors for
portable appliances.

INSTALLATION DESCRIPTION FOR SYSTEM ‘700’
A Programmable MULTI-ZONE Control system for use with NOBO Panel Heaters and associated appliances.
The Orion 700 is best described as a multi channel programmable time switch
It is possible to create upto 100 separate time zones (channels)
Switching instructions for these zones are sent to an appliance by radio signal
There is no inter-connecting wiring between the Orion and an appliance
Each zone may have its own programme and operate independently
Each zone may control just one or as many appliances as you require
WIRING

There are no special wiring requirements but the following comments should be considered:
The Orion requires a 230 volt two wire supply and due to its continuous use an unswitched 3amp fused flex connection plate is recommended
Panel heaters require a 230 volt three wire supply (L, N & E), on the RH side of the appliance, due to their continuous
use an unswitched 13amp flex connection plate is recommended. The transmitted signal is passed from heater to
heater in a relay fashion and it is recommended that heaters are not switched off but remain on in order to maintain
the signal link effect.
Fixed appliances such as towel rails and immersion heaters may have their circuits switched by inline RS and RSX receivers
switching the circuit on and off according to the programme instructions. The use of switch plates with neon indicators is
recommended and receivers be should fitted into plastic enclosures, the use of metal boxes should be avoided.
SETUP
Setting the system up should start with selecting, naming and installing your zones into the Orion 700, for example:

Each appliance has its own unique code, a list of these codes should be

OPERATION
The function of the Orion 700 is to switch a heater receiver to one of four modes of operation, comfort, setback, frost or stop. The heaters
operation LED will change from red to green according to the mode selected, in frost or stop modes the LED will be intermittent.

PROGRAMME PROFILE
The unique code number for each receiver should be recorded before installation.
RS & RSX inline receivers will switch off in all modes except comfort.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ‘RDC-700’ CONTROL
CONTROL MODULE type R80 RDC-E designed for use with NOBO Panel heaters using Series 8 controls.
A Control module with a multi-zone programme control capability, switching between adjustable comfort and
economy modes of operation, with fixed frost protection and stop override capability.
KEY to Fig. 1.
1 – Comfort temperature adjustment control.
2 – Economy temperature adjustment control.
4 – Status - mode indicator light.(Red/Green)
6 – Amber operating indicator light.
8 – On / Off switch. l = On, 0 = Off.
9 – Control mode override button.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Switch the heater on with switch (8).
Set comfort temperature with control (1).
Set economy temperature with control (2).
Set the Orion Unit (EC700) into operation.
When indicator (4) is red the heater will operate in comfort mode to maintain the set temperature (1).
When indicator (4) is green the heater will operate in economy mode and maintain the set economy temp'. (2)
When indicator (4) is green but flashing the heater will only provide frost protection.
When indicator (4) is green but flashing intermittantly the heater will be in stopped mode and will give no heat.
Appropriate instructions from the Orion control unit are required to switch between above modes of operation.
When the mode of operation is either ‘Frost Protection’ or ‘Stopped’ the heater economy and comfort controls
have no effect. Override switch (9) when fitted, may be used to toggle between economy and comfort modes,
but will have no effect when the mode of operation is either ‘Frost Protection’ or ‘Stopped’.
The action of the heater’s electronic thermostat provides proportional regulation of temperature. The Amber
operating indicator light (6) will be seen to go on and off at frequent intervals as the thermostat adjusts the
amount of heat supplied to maintain room temperature. When room temperature is more than 1°C below
the thermostat set point the heater will operate continuously but during the last one degree the operation
will be proportionally reduced until the required temperature is achieved.
Switching between the operating modes is achieved by radio signals transmitted by the Orion master
control unit. Switching does not always occur immediately and a short response time should be allowed.

NOTE
The heater should not be covered or things be placed on or over the heater.
Minimum clearance of 50mm from all surfaces must be maintained at all times.
The heater is fitted with an over-temperature cut-out which will switch off the heating element in the event of
the heater becoming too hot. The element will not be switched back on again until the heater has cooled.
CLEANING
The heater may be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
The heater may be tilted forwards on its mounting bracket for cleaning and decorating behind the heater.
Pressing the clips downward at the back of the heater will release the heater from the mounting bracket.
