Executive Summary

The
Wf4Ever

website
http://www.wf4ever
-
project.org/

provides the public face of the
Wf4Ever
project and is
an important channel for disseminat
ion
, providing project information and
highlights of project news and
activities
. It also makes project outputs available, facilitates

community engagement
and supports

the
partn
ers in conducting the project.

The website makes use of a Wiki so that the pro
ject
members and associates

can easily engage with content
creation. The Wiki is the principal

repository

of content and will
also
be linked into
by other sites designed for
specific user communities.

The website is administered by iSOCO. Editorial respons
ibility is joint with University of Oxford
,

who are
responsible for dissemination. Production of content is the responsibility of all partners and will be
coordinated by iSOCO (project management) and University of Oxford (dissemination).

1.

Design

The Wf4Ever website i
s designed to meet multiple objectives:

1.

Public Dissemination

-

To function as
the “public face” of the project (i.e. the
first point of contact for
peopl
e finding out about the project),

providing descriptive information, highlights of project activity
and

a route to further information.

2.

Community engagement

a.

To support a user and developer community in working with the
outputs of

the project.

b.

To make content available for re
-
use by other websites in order to facilitate
community
-
specific
engagement.

3.

Project

execution

a.

To facilitate the management and execution of the project
including

the Task Forces.

b.

To provide a repository of project deliverables
including both reports and

software.

4.

Additionally, it interlinks with content in other sites, projects and repos
itories as appropriate.

Figure
1

illustrates the
organisation

of the website to meet these objectives. The public face of the website
includes a blog for dissemination of project news and highlights, and it provides links through
to the wiki.
The wiki is where most of the project activity and content is focused: it has a public part, which provides
content for the project website but also for other websites developed for specific community engagements,
and a private part which is

accessible only to project partners.

2.

Implementation

The public facing website and blog are provided by a Liferay
1

instance, and the Wiki functionality (public and
private) is provided
by Confluence
2
, from which we have obtained an open
-
source license due to the nature
of the project. These systems are hosted and administered by iSOCO.

The initial implementation has the following structure from the public
-
facing front page:

Home

About

Users

Contact

Press Room

Links

Software

Deliverables

Publications

Wiki

In the following subsections, we briefly cover each of these pages and the functionalities and content they
provide.

2.1

Home

The main page of the Wf4Ever website will feature dynamic c
ontent and change accordingly depending on
the requirements of the project at any given time. The most important events and news related to the project
will be posted in blog style in this area, allowing end users to subscribe to them and hence be aware of

the
advance of the project.

At the time of writing, the main page features news about the kick
-
off meeting and the role of the project
within the Future Internet event, both held in December 2010, as well as a picture of the consortium
members, as depicte
d in
Figure
2
.

2.2

About

The about page of the project will be of a more static nature, and will act as a short explanation of the project
goals and results to people that

have their first contact with Wf4Ever. Still, it is expected that the content of
this page will be changed from time to time in order to reflect more accurate explanations about the project
as it advances.

This section also lists the project partners.

2.3

Use
rs

This section
provides information about the users of
Wf4Ever

and is designed to attract and inform new
users
.

In the early stage it will present the project use cases and focus on the user engagements we have
directly through the project partners. This

will expand as the
Wf4Ever

software is developed and user bases
are developed.

2.4

Contact

This page features the contact details of the project coordinator, so any user who reaches the website will be
able to communicate with the consortium if desired.

2.5

Press

Room

The idea here is to feature all the available appearances of the project in different media publications,
ranging from blogs to online newspapers.

2.6

Links

In this section, we will provide links to

important
external
resources and

articles, posts, etc.,

that we believe
are interesting for the scope of the project, regardless of their authorship coming from a project partner or
not.

The links will be organised into the following categories (though during the project lifetime it is possible that
we include

more):

Tools

Presentations

Videos

Background information

2.7

Software

The Wf4Ever project
provides

software that will be released as open source, and consequently it will be
important to featu
re these results in a prominent space within the website. In this section, external users will
be able to download the latest releases of the project, as well as access the code repository and browse
through it.

This section will also act as the entry poin
t for the open source community to be fostered around the results
of the project.

2.8

Deliverables

This will be the main entry point in the website to see the list of public deliverables. Users will be a
ble to
download them from here. The documents
will be sto
red in the public part of the wiki, as we will see in
Section
2.10
.

2.9

Publications

As with the deliverables, the publications that result from the project will be featured at this prominent
location of the website. Again, when av
ailable, these documents will be downloadable from this section, as
there will be links to the public space of the wiki where they will be stored.

We will highlight the publications
that are our recommended citations for the project.

2.10

Wiki

The wiki part of
the website is of a different nature than the rest of the website. As explained before, the
purpose of this area is twofold: i) It will act as a working area for project members, providing them with a
place for internal discussion, for sharing meeting minu
tes, gathering information about a particular topic, etc.,
D8.1:Wf4Ever Website

Page

12

and ii) It will feature some information that the project members will make public so external users will be
able to access and browse through it.

The main entry point of the Wf4Ever wiki is:

http:
//www.wf4ever
-
project.org/wiki

a) Public wiki

Anonymous users (not logged in) will see a single “space” in the main dashboard, called “public”, which is
available at the following url, and depicted in
Figure
3
:

http://www.wf4ever
-
project.org/wiki/display/public/Home

Figure
3
: Wf4Ever public wiki entry point

This area will contain all the information that the consortium wants to make public, and will have a dynamic
nature in order to facilitate engagement

from external users.

b) Private wiki

Project partners will be able to create an account in the wiki, in order to create and modify content in the
public space, as well as access (and create and modify content in) the private spaces. These additional
spac
es, not open to the public, will be available from the dashboard when they log into the wiki.

In order to create an account in the wiki, project partners need to sign up in the following url:

http://www.wf4ever
-
project.org/wiki/signup.action

Please note th
at new user requests will be moderated, as the purpose of the sign up process is to only allow
project members access the restricted area.

The private area of the wiki will also contain links to the management tools to be used by the consortium
members.

C
ontent management and editorial arrangements

The coordinating partner has overall responsibility and authority for website content. University of Oxford,
through its responsibility for workpa
c
kage 8 (
Dissemination, Transfer and Exploitation
) will coordina
te the
activities which lead to website updates from a dissemination viewpoint (public face, blog and public wiki),
and iSOCO will provide this coordination from a project management viewpoint (private wiki).

By making the wiki the main focus of project
activity we ensure that all partners are involved in content
creation.

Oxford staff will have particular responsibility for the public
-
facing home page and maintaining the
blog with news and project activity highlights; i.e. filtering wiki activity through

to the pubic face. (
The blue
arrows in figure 1 indicate this role
.)

The website organisation and policies will continue to be reviewed as the project develops. In particular, as
project software becomes available there will be
increasing attention to dev
eloper and user engagement,
and we anticipate development of community
-
specific sites. We also note that partners are bringing existing
software to the project that is relevant to management and dissemination of project information, and we plan
to make use

of this to facilitate the project
and support the project website
as appropriate.
