Electronics & Communication Engineering
department, National Institute of Technology,
Tiruchirapalli offers
two
M.Tech. Programmes on
Communication Systems and VLSI System in addition to
an U.G. Programme. It has the reputation of having
successfully com
pleted several R&D projects in the last
two decades. It is presently carrying out
three

R&D
project
s
, funded by Dept. of Science & Technology

as
well as Ministry of human resources development
, New
Delhi. It has state of the art DSP Laboratory and VLSI
Laboratory.
The fiber optic, microwave and
communication laboratories have been upgraded with
simulation tools using the TEQIP funds. Several faculty
members have been trained in foreign

universities under
TEQIP programme.
During the past 6 years, it has
been
conducting continuing education programmes on Digital
Signal Processors and System Design using CAD tools
and Hardware description languages for the benefit of
students and Engineers in and around Tiruchirapalli.
In
tune with the industrial trend, ECE

dept. of NIT
-
T has
been active, during the past three years, on carrying out
research work on optimization of the systems on chip
(SOC) designed with FPGA. It has won prizes on
international level
SOC design contests in the last three
years.

Our departm
ent has been hosting experts from
leading universities to augment our efforts to excel in
research and teaching. This year,
Prof. V. John Mathews

and Prof. Sethuraman
from reputed US universities
are

visiting our institute under TEQIP programme

for two
weeks
.


Prof. V. John Mathews, has authored two books
and has published more than 100 papers in IEEE journals
and conferences. He has guided several Ph.D. and
Masters thesis works.

Prof. B.A. Sethuraman, has published a

number of papers in IEEE transact
ions on information
theory on Space time coding and its
