Description

Founded in 1970, ANSYS employs approximatel
y 1,700 employees, many of
whom are engineers with advanced degrees and extensive training in
fields
,

such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics and
design optimization.

ANSYS is passionate about pushing the limits of its
world
-
class te
chnology, so customers can turn their design concepts into
su
c
cessful, innovative products.

ANSYS develops, markets, and supports engineering simulation software
used to predict how product designs will operate and how manufacturing
processes will behave i
n real
-
world environments.

The Company cont
i
n
u-
ally advances simulation solutions by, first, developing or acquiring the
very best technology; then integrating it into a unified and customizable
simul
a
tion platform that allows engineers to efficiently perf
orm complex
simulations involving the interaction of multiple physics; and, finally,
pr
o
viding system services to manage simulation processes and data

all
so engineers and product developers can spend more time designing and
i
m
proving products
,

and less
time using software and searching for data.

ANSYS is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and has
more than 60 strategic sales locations throughout the world.

In addition,
ANSYS enlists a network of channel partners in more than 40 countries
,
and all together the Company fosters close partnerships with customers
and provides local, value
-
added service and support.

Product & Services Strategies

ANSYS Workbench

-

The ANSYS Workbench is the framework upon
which the company’s suite of advanced e
ngineering simulation technology
is built. An innovative project schematic view ties together the entire sim
u-
lation process, guiding the user through even complex multiphysics
analyses with drag
-
and
-
drop simplicity. With bi
-
directional CAD conne
c-
tivity,
an automated project level update mechanism, pervasive parameter
management and int
e
grated optimization tools, the ANSYS Workbench
delivers unprecedented productivity, enabling simulation driven product
development.

Structural Mechanics

-

ANSYS structural

mechanics solutions offer best
-
in
-
class simulation tools for product design and optimization that increase
pro
d
uctivity, minimize physical prototyping and help deliver better and
innovative products in less time. These solutions tackle real
-
world analysi
s
problems by making product development less costly and more reliable. A
broad spectrum of capabilities cover a range of analysis types, elements,
contact, materials, equation solvers, and coupled physics capability all ta
r-
geted toward understanding and
solving complex d
e
sign problems.

Multiphysics

-

Multiphysics simulation from ANSYS provides high
-
fidelity
engineering analysis tools that enable the accurate simulation of complex
coupled
-
physics behavior. ANSYS multiphysics solutions combine indu

try
-
lea
ding solver technology for all physics disciplines
-

structural
mechanics, heat transfer, fluid flow and electromagnetics
-

with an open
and adaptive ANSYS Workbench environment, flexible coupled
-
physics
simulation methods, and parallel scalability. Toget
her these cutting
-
edge
technologies form the foundation for comprehensive multiphysics simul
a-
tion capable of solving industry’s most complex engineering challenges

Fluid Dynamics

-

ANSYS offers a comprehensive fluid dynamics product
suite for modeling flui
d flow and other related physical phenomena. Fluid
flow analysis capabilities provide all the tools needed to design and opt
i-
m
ize new fluids equipment and to troubleshoot already existing
install
a
tions. The ANSYS fluid dynamics product suite contains bot
h ge
n-
eral purpose computational fluid d
y
namics software and additional
specialized products to address specific indu
s
try applications.

Electromagnetics

-

Electromagnetic simulation from ANSYS provides i
n-
dus
try leading analysis tools that enable the accurat
e simulation of
electromagnetic fields. ANSYS electromagnetic solutions enable engineers

electromechanical devices. The ANSYS electromagnetic product
suite contains both g
eneral purpose and application specific products to
address a broad a
r
ray of industry applications.

Partnerships and Acquisitions

Partnerships:

Autodesk; Dassault Systemes; PTC
-
MathCAD; Solidworks;
Think3; Siemens PLM

Acquisitions
: Ansoft

Strengths and Cha
llenges

Strengths
: Ansys has become the leading provider of product test and
s
i
mulation (CAE) solutions for the PLM sector. They offer a very complete
and comprehensive set of applications for structural mechanics, multi
-
physics, fluid dynamics, electroma
gnetics, and simulation processes. They
have done a good job of making the right acquisitions to expand their
product offerings, such as Fluent (2007) for computational fluid dynamics.
Additionally, they have strategic partnerships with all major PLM provi
d-
ers.

Challenges
: While Ansys is currently market leader in the CAE space, they
will need to be able to fend off the product offerings in this sector from the
major PLM providers, who all offer product test solutions, such as SIMULA
from Dassault Systemes
, and NX Simulation from Siemens PLM.
