Building Wiring

Wiring closets within 300 feet of the building’s primary wiring closet (MDF) can connect
to the
MDF using either copper or multimode fiber. Wiring closets beyond 300 feet of the
MDF need to connect to the MDF using multimode fiber. “ST” fiber connectors are used
for 10 Mb/s data transfer rate, and “SC” connectors are used for 100 Mb/s and 1000 Mb/s
(
Gigabit Ethernet) data transfer rate. Cisco is also using a small RJ modular type jack
called MTRJ.
