Classroom Expectations

1.) Respect everyone and everything in the classroom

2.) No

cell phones,

gum, food, or beverages of any kind should be presen
t while
rehearsing. However
water is encouraged.

May result in a detention.

3.) Always

come prepared with a pencil and your music.

4.) Use correct posture at all times. (Sitting and standing straight etc.)

5.) When class begins you are expected to be in the room ready for class to begin. A
tardy will be given if this expectation is not met
.

6.) Working on homework during rehearsal is unacceptable and should be done on your
own time, not the choir’s time.

7.) Leaving the room during rehearsal should only be done in an emergency.

8.) Come to class prepared and ready to take lots of risks!!!!

Assessments and Point Totals

Participation/Effort

This makes up over one third a student’s final grade. 5 points per
day are recorded every day a student is present, and no points will be recorded for every
day missed. A student can accumulate 200 or

more points during a term, depending upon
how many days are in that term. Because participation and effort are essential in
maintaining a community of strong choral musicians, it is only fair to make participation
and effort a large portion of a student’s

final grade.

Exceptions and Make
-
Up

-
Only a student with an excused absents will be able to make up their
points missed. A student whom does not have an excused absents will not
be able to make up the five points missed.

Concert Attendance

Concer
t at
tendance is worth a total of 300

points. A stude
nt is
awarded a total of 300

points for attending a concert. Those who do not make a concert
are given a total of 0 points. A concert can be looked at as if it were a final exam. Each
term the choir w
orks toward achieving excellence in different musical concepts and then
shows an understanding of concepts learned, through a final performance such as a
concert.

Exceptions and Make
-
Up

-
Family emergencies and illnesses may be excused and made
-
up if:

1
. Mr. Stuempges is contacted prior to a concert

All concerts are printed on the school calendar and posted on our website before the
start of school. There should be no excuses for any other scheduled events if you
and your family have taken time to look

at this information.

Voice Lessons

Voice Lessons are worth 50 points each and required 3 times per term
for a total of 150 pts. A student will not be assessed upon how well he/she can sing but
rather the ability to cooperatively work with the teacher
and show signs of improvement
from lesson to lesson. A student will be dismissed from a class 3 times per term to attend
a voice lesson and are responsible for gathering information they missed on their own.

A
voice lesson will last 15

minutes and be giv
en once every three weeks. If a student does
not attend a lesson during a three week span, he/she will be given a total of 0 points for
that lesson. Attending lessons regularly is an easy way to obtain a good grade.

Exceptions and Make
-
Up

-
If a student decides he/she cannot attend a scheduled lesson, it is their
responsibility to contact Mr. Stuempges prior to the lesson and schedule
another time to meet.

-
There are no exceptions or make
-
up for any lessons which are not

completed in a

three week period. A student ca
n easily find time for a 15

minute
lesson every three weeks.

Quarterly Assessments
-

Quarterly Assessments are given during the 3
rd

lesson of every
quarter. Students are not graded upon certain topics covered during that quarter such as
vocal technique, interval recognition, sight reading, rhythms and other topics. Quarterly
Assessments are worth 100 points on top of the 50 point les
son so it is crucial to get
lesson 3 in on time.
