Installing the .NET Framework on your Computer
In order to run the HALT application on your computer, you must have the Microsoft .NET
framework 2.0 or above. If you do not have the .NET framework OR
have a version of .NET
that is lower than version 2.0 you need to install the framework. Please follow the
instructions below.
This information is for you and your IT support.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you already have an older version of .NET on your computer lower than version 2.0, (e.g.
v1.1) it is necessary for you to remove this version before you can install a newer version.
Before you remove this older version, please check with your IT support to ensure that this
is ok. This older version may be required for other software applications on your computer.
If this is a problem please contact fionamary.roche@hse.ie
for further information.
Where do I get the .NET framework from and how do I install it?
The .NET framework can be downloaded from the Microsoft website at the following
address:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB‐4362‐4B0D‐8EDD‐
AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
Click the ‘Download’ button as shown above.
The window below will appear. The file name is called “dotnetfx.exe”. Click Save to save the
file to your computer (i.e your Desktop).
Once you save the file, you can double‐click on it to launch the installer. The following
window will appear:
Click Run to run the application. Follow the instructions on the screen to install.
Once you have installed the new version of the .NET framework, reboot your computer.
To launch the HALT application, first copy all of the contents of the CD into a HALT folder on
your local Desktop. Go into the HALT Software folder, and simply double‐click on the
HALT_NH.exe or HALT_NH file (whether the .exe extension appears or not, depends on your
computer’s configuration). Further instructions are provided in the software user guide
provided in your CD HALT pack.
Do I need the CD containing the HALT software package after I have copied the files onto
my computer?
Yes, please do not throw away your CD
after copying the files onto your computer. Please
keep it and store it in a safe place. You may need these files again if you would like to repeat
this study locally in the future.
