troduction

Recipe Weighing System

is a software
application for the Cardinal 825

indicator
.

The Cardinal 825 Digital Weight Indicator provide qui
ck and easy recipe batching and
complete traceability of each recipe created, from the first ingred
ients enter
ed on Scale 1 to
the
compl
etion of the recipe on Scale 3.
Each 825 co
nnected to the PC server via an
Ethernet network
The PC Recipe Manager Software allow creation of
recipes and hold all
recipe and
traceability data. The proposed system provides efficient

and

fast weighing
transactions and
provides a simple to use and intuitive operational procedure for the
operator.

3. Data, Setup and Information.

Each 82
5 indicator and platform (
hereafter referred to as workstation or WS
) will
hold its own
reference ID so the workstation from where the weight data is taken can be
identified in the

traceability system (1,2,3 or a reference name).

The PC software will be lo
aded with the supplied default data of
existing recipes
and will allow
easy creation, editing or deleting or recipes and ingredients.

The tolerances for each ingredients

will be entered and stored on the PC.

Each ingredient will have its own tole
rance as default but

can also have a specific
tolerance set in each recipe if required.

E
ach work station will only weigh certain ingredients. When the ingredient is

added
to the PC database the supervisor will be prompted to select which WS the ingredi
ent will

be used on. This will aid in traceability and also help reduce human error.

The

recipe is always started on Workstation 1 and passes through to WS2 and

then
WS3. Therefore once a recipe has started it will be locked to that workstation until it is

completed. (This will be the unique recipe only not the master recipe, multiple versions of
the

master recipe can be running at one time). If an attempt is made to access it on another

workstation a notification will be given of the workstation that is ru
nning that recipe and it
will

only be released after that workstation has completed its filling process.

Once the recipe has been started on WS1 it is registered in the system and given a
unique code referencing the consecutive number, recipe number and da
te.

At the moment it is assumed that the containers for the recipe are not used again, (if
they are then this is not a problem and the barcode for that container can just be scanned
each time) therefore we would recommend that a barcode is printed at the p
oint that the
recipe is started on WS1 and stuck to the container. This will be scanned as it moves onto
WS2 and WS3 and will allow complete traceability from start to finish.

4
.
Operational Procedure
.

The PC software will hold all recipe data in an SQL
ite database.

This database will
be live and
up to date with every recipe that is being run. Each 825 will access the database
and show the

recipe that is being run.

-

The scale is at zero or the operator zeros the scale by pres
sing the ZERO button on
the 82
5
screen

-

The Operator places the container on the scale and tares the container (auto or
manual)

-

When the weight is stable the operator selects the required recipe.

-

A traceability barcode is printed containing the batch number that is attached to the
conta
iner

-

The 825 requests the data from the PC and displays the ingredie
nts (available on
that WS) that
recipe requires and the operator touches the screen to begin filling
that ingredient.

-

During the manual filling a filling bar is displayed on the 825 sc
reen
. This bar
moves across the
screen and the screen changes colour from Red and Amber to
Green as the weight enters the

required tolerances. Once within the tolerances the
filling bar zooms in to show a more accurate

smaller filling range with the target in
the centre to ensure that the operator obtains a fill weight

as close to the target as
possible.

-

Between each ingredient the program automatically tares the display

-

All ingredients must be completed to within tolerances or the 8
25 will not allow the
recipe

to
continue

-

Once all ingredients have been weighed the PC is updated as to the progress of that
recipe and

container and this is stored and recorded against the unique number
generated at the start of the

filling process.

-

The container moves to the next W
S.

-

The barcode is scanned at that WS and the filling process repeated.

Once the filling has been successfully completed on WS
3 the PC database is updated
to
show that the recipe represented by the unique barcode that the container holds
has been

filled to

within acceptable tolerances
.

Each record will be stored on the PC
along with the target weights, actual fill weights and

the deviations from the tolerance.
These records can be accessed at any point by entering in

the unique batch number
into the PC soft
ware.

5
. Troubleshooting

5
.1.
The printer is not printing.

Check if the printer is powered ON

Check if there is a paper and it is placed correctly

Check if the 825 indicator shows any message when PRINT button is
pressed. The weight must

not

be below ze
ro or overcapacity.

Check if

COM port settings on the 825 are
not
different from the actual
device connection.
