BJECTIVES
:

The aim of this pre
-
course is to introduce students to the subject of
macroeconomics
.
Students are strongly advised to attend Students are strongly advised to attend especially
those
whose bachelor background did not include any macroeconomics course. The topics
discussed during this module will provide a theoretical (and methodological) basis to
address issues covered in the
subsequent 30 hours. In particular, the module focuses on
t
he following elements:


1) Macroeconomic variables:
GDP, inflation, growth, unemployment, aggregate demand,
government deficit and public debt, balance of payments, national accounts.


2) Introduction to monetary economics.
Monetary aggregates, interest
rates, exchange
rate, banks, financial markets, the financial system.


3) Basic macroeconomic modelling:
the neo
-
classical macroeconomic model, the IS
-
LM
model, the AS
-
AD model.
