Your weekly update on the coatings industry

Current number of subscribers: 42354

Dear reader,

there are handy reliable materials which have been a standard part of coatings formulations for a very long time
. Hence, it is hard to
do without them, even if there are good reasons for their elimination, as they are not only useful but also harmful.

This is true for a number of coatings raw materials. One of the latest efforts to ban harmful ingredients from paint
s concerns a toxic
heavy
-
metal catalyst. In this week's European Coatings News, Austrian scientists explain their current strategies to replace the
cobalt
-
based catalyst by environmentally friendlier and less toxic alternatives. They were able to demonstra
te for the first time that a
laccase
-
mediator system can effectively replace the heavy
-
metal catalyst and cross
-
link alkyd resins.

Read more about useful developments in today's newsletter!
