For frequency:

i.

Automatic (push)
carries the highest battery penalty, but means you will
receive mail

immediately

when you have an internet connection.

ii.

Selecting
Never

means you must manually sync the account when you open the
mail application.

iii.

Selecting an
interval
means that it will poll for updates at the frequency
indicated, this means that there will often be a delay

b.

For days to sync, this is how far back your ph
one will keep email on the device.
Increasing this amount increases the amount of storage used on your device.

c.

Each of the check boxes corresponds to a particular facet of your exchange account, you
may enable and disable features as you see fit.

i.

Sending
from this account by default means that all messages you send via
email from your device will normally be sent by Palmetto Health unless
otherwise specified when you are drafting your email.

ii.

Notify when mail arrives does not affect whether or not you recei
ve warnings
for calendar appointments, those must be disabled separately.

iii.

Attachments are not normally downloaded unless you tap the icon and specify
that you wish to, enabling “automatically download attachments over wi
-
fi”
circumvents that, but only wh
en connected to a home or office wireless local
area network.

iv.

Sync over wi
-
fi only, when enabled, prevents your device from using the
frequency you’ve picked out above until you are on a home or
office wireless
local area network. This is useful for travel
ers who do not wish to use
international data.

8.

You will be prompted with the
Active Device Administrator

at this point, tap
Activate.
This will
not

erase any data on your device. You will be forced to pick a
password

to unlock your phone
that is
6 characte
rs long

and must contain at
least

one number.

9.

Lastly, you may be prompted to enter an
account name
, this may be anything you wish to keep
track of which account is which on your device and will not be visible to anyone but you.

To
customize any settings yo
u have picked in the future, open
All Apps
, go to

forget to read the following “Things You Should Know” section if this is the first time
you have
configured your device to get email from Palmetto Health.

Things You Should Know

DO NOT ACCEPT CALENDAR / MEETING / APPOINTMENT INVITATIONS FROM YOUR DEVICE.
THIS CAN POTENTIALLY DESTROY THE CALENDAR ENTRY FOR OTHER PEOPLE ON THE
MEETING. IT IS CU
RRENTLY A KNOWN BUG IN BOTH ANDROID AND IOS.

Every time you change your password on the computer,
you must change it on your device
, no
exceptions. Failure to do so will result in your account being locked out.

1.

Open
All Apps
, go to
Settings.

2.

Tap the Palme
tto Health account in the list.

3.

Go to
Incoming Server Settings
, change your
Password
, press the
Back
button when
you’ve finished. The next time your phone syncs, it will use the new password.

If you are leaving the country, you will want to change your
sync settings or remove your
account. To turn off sync so you don’t use your data plan internationally:

1.

Open
All Apps
, go to
Settings.

2.

Tap the Palmetto Health Account in the list.

3.

Under
Data Usage
, change
Inbox Checking Frequency
to
Never
. You can also just pick
Remove Account

if you have no intention of checking your messages while out of the
country.

Hit the
Back
button when you’re finished modifying settings.

This means that you will now have to update your inbox manually when you
wish
to check for new email, which is done via the
Sync
icon in the inbox of the
mail app.
