To install Noösphere,performthe following steps.
1.
Please make sure that the following software that Noösphere depends on is installed on your system.
1.
PostgresSQL or MySQL;MySQL recommended
2.
Apache 1.3.x
3.
mod_perl 1.x
4.
Perl 5.8 or later,with the following modules:
a.
DBI
b.
DBI driver for PostgresQL or MySQL
c.
XML::LibXML
d.
XML::LibXSLT
e.
Digest::SHA1
f.
Unicode::String
g.
Data::Denter
5.
libxml and libxslt
6.
Ghostscript
7.
LaTeX2e
8.
ImageMagick 5 or later,with development libraries
9.
netpbm
10.
vim6.0 or later
11.
GNU C compiler
2.
Make a directory,and unpack the three files
latex2html-N1.tar.gz
noosphere.tar.gz
noosphere-lucene-module.tar.gz
into that directory.
3.
Run setup.pl instead with the --setup-latex2html option.It will automatically configure and
build latex2html with the right options to use for Noösphere.
4.
Finally,set-up Noösphere itself as follows.Run (more details described below):
1
Noösphere installation
./setup.pl --db-create-user --db-create-schema --db-create-data
With the options given,the script will automatically create the SQL database and database user,and
the configuration files used by Noösphere.If you need to make changes,you can run the script
again,or edit the generated configuration files directly.
Some passwords used for the running and administration of Noösphere will be automatically
generated,and displayed to you.You can supply a different password with command line options,
(or in an options file for security).
When the database users is being created,you may be asked to supply the relevant password to
authorize that process.
Alternatively,by omitting the options,you can elect to create the database manually.This may be
needed if you have specialized security set-ups at your site,for example.For details,see the usage
instructions given by the command./setup.pl --help.
If the database and user for Noösphere has already been created,you can use only the
--db-create-schema --db-create-data options to populate the database.In this case,you
must also supply to the setup script the user name and password that you have already assigned.
By default,setup.pl assumes that you are using a MySQL SQL database.If you wish to use
PostgresQL instead,supply the --db-type=psql option also.
5.
To begin using the Noösphere server,run the Apache Web server with the created configuration file
in noosphere/etc/httpd.conf.On the command-line,you can use a command such as:
/usr/sbin/apache -F -f ‘pwd‘/noosphere/etc/httpd.conf.
If you are satisfied with the server settings,you can then put a similar command as part of the
system’s start-up scripts.Or,you may elect to modify the Apache configuration,which may be
needed if you want to serve other kinds of Web pages on the same server,for example.
6.
If you want to use the Lucene-based search engine,consult and follow the instructions in
lucene_search_module/README.
