Introduction

The
MVC300 camera is a sleek and compact video recording device perfect for in
-
car mounting: an ideal solution if you
want to capture any significant events that might occur on the road. It can also be used to augment any fleet
management system with added vid
eo surveillance
.

While MVC300 is versatile enough on its own the purpose of this document is to further extent possible applications of
the camera. The document describes how to connect MVC300 to Teltonika’s RUT500 3G/HSPA+ router
and achieve 3G
camera sol
ution.


5.

Brief setup description

T
o access MVC300 WebUI from internet or to get video stream trough 3G
,

these
steps should be completed:

1.

The camera’s network settings should be:

IP address:


192.168.1.10

Netmask:


255.255.255.0

Default gateway:


192.168.1.1

HTTP port:


80

2.

RUT500 LAN IP address should

be set

to
192.168.1.1

and it should have
DMZ

to
192.168.1.10

enabled.

3.

The camera should be connected to any RUT500 LAN port by Ethernet cable.

4.

RUT500 needs

a

SIM

card with

an

external IP address

5.

Find out RUT500
3G IP address and use

it

to access MVC300 WebUI.

6.

Setting

up your
camera

Configuration of the camera is done through its WebUI. To access

the

WebUI
,

connect the camera to your PC by
Ethernet cable and make sure your PC belongs to

the

192.168.1.0/24 subnet
.

Type
http://192.168.1.10

into your internet browser’s address field in order to reach the camera’s WebUI
.

2.

Go to
Maintenance

tab.

3.

Under
Network setting

change
Default gateway

to router’s IP address (
192.168.1.1
)

and press
Save
.


4.

Go to
Advanced settings

tab.

5.

It is recommended to lower

streaming
Bit rate

from

the

default value to
1000

Kbps.
Press
Save

to apply new
settings.
While 1000 Kbps is a good place to start it should be tuned to suite your network conditions
.


7.

Setting up you
r router

The router is able to transmit camera‘s data with

the

default settings but to be able to access the camera remotely

a

DMZ rule has to be configured. Configuration of the router is done through its WebUI. To access WebUI connect the
router to your
PC by Ethernet cable and make sure your PC belongs to 192.168.1.0/24 subnet.

Type
http://192.168.1.1

into your internet browser’s address field in order to reach the
router‘s

WebUI
.

2.

Login to the device with username
admin

and password
admin01
.

3.

Click on
Network

menu and open
3G

tab.

4.

Type APN and authorization parameters (if required). Please note, that your
SIM

with
public

IP address is
required.
Press
Save

to apply new settings.

Click on

Network

menu and open
Firewall

tab.

6.

Enable DMZ and type camera‘s

IP address (
192.168.1.10
).
Press
Save

to apply new settings.


7.

Click on
Status

menu and open
Network Information

tab.

8.

Check
WAN

section to find out public IP address (
IPv4 address
) of the router. Use this IP address to access the
camera.


7.1.

Dynamic IP

Router has
Dynamic DNS

function
if your operator provides only dynamic public IP address.

1.

Click on
Services

menu and open
Dynamic DNS

tab.

2.

Enable Dynamic DNS and fill in the settings.
Press
Save

to apply the changes.

7.2.

OpenVPN

VPN (Virtual Private Netwo
rk) is a method for secure data transfer through unsafe public network.

OpenVPN client
configuration can be used
to
overcome the situation when your operator does not provide public IP address.

OpenVPN

server should be set up on the PC with public IP address. OpenVPN installer can be obtained from
http://openvpn.net/index.php/download.html
.

Please refer to RUT500 user manual for configuration of

OpenVPN client. Some important configuration keys:

Remote host IP address

IP address of OpenVPN server (
your PC
).

Local tunnel endpoint

IP address of virtual local network interface (applicable only
for point to point
connections).

After OpenVPN connectio
n is established there are two ways to access the camera: camera’s IP address (192.168.1.10)
or local tunnel endpoint can be used. Using camera’s IP address has the advantage that it does not require DMZ to be
configured on the router.


8.

Connecting camera to
the router

After the camera and the router are both set up they need to be connected.

1.

Supply power to the camera by USB cable or DC connector

2.

Supply power to the router

3.

Using Ethernet cable connect the camera to any of the router’s LAN

ports

After the router has power
ed

up and 3G IP is acquired you can access the camera’s WebUI or
view

RTSP stream from
your remote PC.
