Installation




Download the latest version of joomla from
www.joomla.org



Create a folder in
C:
\
xampp
\
htdocs

and unzip the joomla file into this folder.



Create a new databas
e



In your browser type in
http://localhost/foldername



It takes you to the installation screen.



Select a language and click next

in the information and click next

Main Configuration

Site name

Type your folder name,
give the password as
admin and click next



Remove the inst

Template creation




In order to crea
te a template first we have

to

place the modules and the
components in the specified positions
.



Open

the index.php file.



Create a normal html template with the required div’s.



D
o not add any content.



Now the modules and components can be placed as follows

Article




In order to published some text in the content area, we have to create an article.



Before we create an article we have to create a sectio
n
. This can be done as
follows



Login to the backend “
http://localhost/folder_name/administrator




Content > section manager > New



Once a section is created, the next step is to create a category fo
r that section.



Content > category manager > New ( remember to select the section you created)



Now we are ready to create a article



Content > Article manager > New ( select the section and the category in which
you want to publish it)



Click save.



This wil
l be published by the component in the content area.

Module




A module can be created as follows



Extensions > module Manager > new



Select the type of module you require and click next.



Give a module title



Select the position w
here you want to publish it.



Select Enabled as yes



Click save.



The particular module will be published in that position in the front end.

Menus




To create a menu go to



Menus > menu manager > new (Fill in the information
and click save)



Once the menu is created. Go to menus and select the menu created



Now click on new.



It will ask you to select a menu type. Select the required type
.



If you want to publish a single article through the menu, select type “article
layout”.



I
f a no of articles has to published in the same page in a blog layout, select
“category blog layout.”



The type of menu depends upon the content that has to be displayed when the
menu is clicked.



Add a menu title and alias.



Select Published to yes



Click sav
e.

Install Module/Component




To install A new module or component, download the zip file from
http://extensions.joomla.org/



Login to the backend and go to Extension >install/uninsta
ll.



Browse to the file and upload it.



The module installed will be disabled by default.



It can be enabled from Extensions > module manager.

Note




While creating an article, if the default editor is enabled, certain html
tabs
wont work( eg, drop down boxes, image maps etc)



Inorder to use these tags, we have to first disable the default editor.



The editor can be disabled by going to Site > usermanager > administrator



Select “user editor” to “No editor”.



You can then inser
t the html tags , save the article and then enable

back

the
editor if required.
