at

the

Regional

There have been a quantitative and qualitative increment on the contributions of regional participants if comparing the
First E
-
Discussion Forum with the Second E
-
Discussion Forum. While in the first one we received a total of 17
contributions from which 8 came from the Region (Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela and Argentina), on the
Second E
-
discussion Forum, from a total of 67 contributions, 33 comments and opinions came from regional participants
(Panama, Bolivia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador,
Jamaica and Santo Domingo).

The content of a number of the regional contributions were solid, ranging from placing the discussion of women
political participation at the center of democracy and within development from a rights
-
based approach, passing through
ennumerating concrete examples for the success and weakenesses of quotas to thorough analysis on the types of quotas
and electoral systems.

Members

The Regional membership has included to iKNOW Politics global community especially
two target sectors of people prioritized in October 2007: Young women and indigenous
women.

The Regional work has allowed to have a more fluid comunication and interaction with
organizations, institutions and people relevant to iKNOW Politics work at the national and
local levels.

EXPERTS

iKNOW Politics Regional Coordinator extended invitations to 10 Experts in relevant
iKNOW Politics issues. All of them accepted the invitations.

The first regional “ask the experts” question came from Honduras and focused on how to
promote a gender equality policy within a political party. A question about women
parliamentarian caucuses arrived recently from Colombia.

The
consolidated response
on Establishing Women’s Party Section was useful in creating a
Women and Youth Wing of the People’s Democratic Party in Bhutan. Lily
Wangchuck
, Head of the
wing, wrote:

“Many
many

thanks for all your support. I read the comments posted on the site you referred to with
great interest and found them very valuable. The consolidated response helped me to understand
the operation of Women’s Wings in other countries and to formulate the Strategic Plan for Women
Democrats which will become part of our Party Manifesto. Please accept my deep gratitude and
heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support and response.”

iKNOW

Politics has provided
advisory services
to a local NGO in Somaliland,
NAGAAD
, on how to
overcome clan barriers in promoting women in politics. The requester commented on the answer
saying:

“Many thanks for

your response, which is very

helpful. I have already shared it with my colleagues
and I

am looking forward to reading more responses to apply to my work.”

TESTIMONIALS

Discussion circles
became truly international and provoked interesting comments from
iKNOW

Politics members. In the
Women Leadership In Elections

circle
Lina

Mata from Costa Rica wrote:

“This is my first posting in
iKNOW

Politics and I am really pleased reading all the enthusiastic
comments from women leaders from all over the world. I truly believe that is not only our right, but our
duty to promote women leadership and gender equality.”

Commenting about the
iKNOW

, International Museum of Women posted following
quotes on its site:

“ Give Your Words Power!
