Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology (IMB) of Academy of Sciences of Moldova is an academic
center with 63 collaborators, including members of ASM – 3, Ph.D.Hab. – 10, Ph.D. – 27.
It is devoted to applied and basic research in the field of general and industrial microbiology.
IMB was instituted as a result of the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Moldova nr. 1326
dated the 14.12.2005, through the fusion of the following academic institutes:Institute of Microbiology of
ASM, National Collection of Nonpathogenic Microorganisms, Scientific Centre of Patobiology and
Pathology of ASM,.
The Institute hosts 9 research laboratories, their main topics being the conservation and efficient
utilization of the microbial resources, improvement of the physiologic-biochemistry potential of the
microorganisms as biotechnological objects, biodegradation activities of microorganisms and symbiotic
relations in biological models, elaboration of the production technologies of the bioactive preparations
designated for use in agriculture and medicine, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
