Course Description



This course discusses th
e
concept
s

and
application
s

of digital image processing techniques in
analysing digital
satellite

data.
The course is organized in three major parts. The first part
introduces the basic principles of satellite remote sensing, characteristics and resolution
s of
digital satellite data
.

The second part includes image preprocessing and image enhancement.
Image classification and change detection are involved in the third part

for students to learn basic
information extraction techniques
.


Lectures will be used

together with hands
-
on demonstration for students to understand the
concepts as well as the practical operations using digital image processing system. Learning
objectives will be achieved through hands
-
on laboratory, assignment and an individual project.
