REINFORCED CONCRETE
CONSTRUCTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Reinforced Concrete Construction is intended to follow Reinforced Concrete Design, and
to provide an understanding of the processes involved in getting a reinforced concrete
structure actually co
nstructed.
The class will include a required

field trip to a
co
nstruction site
. Students will learn to recognize various aspects of reinforced concrete
construction that could become potential problems, and will also learn about potential
solutions to th
ose problems. A major class project will consist of examining plans and
specifications for an actual building in order to identify potential "critical" areas. A
written summary of the plans/specifications review will be prepared, and suggested
approaches

to avoiding the problems will be included.
Preliminary presentations will be
made throughout the quarter, and the final presentations will occur

the last
two
week
s

of
the course.

Grading will consist of a combination of homeworks, the written review of t

Since there will be a significant amount of group work, an anonymous surve

taken at the end of the quarter asking for feedback on the relative contributions of the
group members. The results of this survey will be used as significant input for adjusting
individual grades
on all group work
to reflect actual contribution
s. Specific point values
could be varied by as much as 50

percent from the original valuations.
